Rose's POV

I woke with a start, sweat covering my body. I tried to slow down my racing heart as I focused on getting the nightmare out of my head. Suddenly, I heard a scream from the other room. I frowned and got up, moving into Adrian's living room. He was still screaming, and thrashing around on the couch. I rushed over to him and shook him hard, trying to wake him up.

"Adrian," I called, "Adrian, wake up!"

Adrian woke up, with sweat pouring down his face and shaking like a leaf.

"You had a nightmare, too." I frowned, not bothering to ask, because I know that he did.

He looked up at me, the fear from what he dreamt of still fresh in his eyes and spoke, "What did you dream of? Adrian asked me.

"Laura." I replied, sitting down beside him on the couch as he made room for me.

"Me too," He said, putting his head in his hands, "I don't know what I'll do if she's a Strigoi, it's all my fault. I know she said she'd rather died than become a Strigoi."

"Just like me and Dimitri said..." I said, mostly to myself.

"Yeah..." Adrian replied, probably not knowing what else to say, and probably still trying to slow down his heart rate.

"What was yours about?" I asked,

"Well," Adrian started

"I was on a beach at sunset, and I was in a tuxedo. Beside me was a minister, there were people in chairs, talking and laughing. Then music started and the people stood up. I looked, and I saw her in a wedding dress, her dad walked her down the aisle. During the ceremony, I was getting this weird feeling, and after we said "I do", I went to kiss her, but she looked different..." He paused.

"How so?" I asked, curious, and I wanted to make sure he knew I was paying attention.

"She went pale, and her eyes became red..." He whispered "And then she bit me, I guess that's when I started screaming."

I hugged him, and he hesitated for a few seconds before he hugged me back. "I can't lose her." he said

"You won't," I said fiercly "We are going to save her. She's alive. I just know she is."

After 1 month of training

Adrian's POV

"Are you ready to go?" Rose asked, looking over at me after walking out of the washroom

I took a deep breath, and my hands shook a little, but my voice was steady, "Yes, I'm ready."

"Okay," Rose replied, and she grabbed her bag, which contained money, water, and extra stakes. She also had one in her coat, as did I, except mine was charmed to restore a Strigoi, in case we had the need.

I said a quick goodbye to Shay, telling her we'd be back in a few days, hopefully, with Laura. She wished me luck and gave me hug.

A few hours later, we were on the road to New York. I was nervous, I knew she was alive, I could just feel it. But there was something nagging at me, some feeling that she wouldn't want me there, and I couldn't shake it. We were fairly quiet most of the time, I knew Rose was worried as well, she loved Laura too. They'd known each other for a while.

I had made sure to go to the feeders before I left, so I would have all my strength. In case we needed reinforcements, Eddie and Dimitri were going to meet us in New York. Even though I still didn't like Dimitri much, I didn't even care that he was coming along. All I cared about was Laura coming home safe.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure how long it took us to get New York. But once we did, we met up with Dimitri and Eddie, and decided to start at the hotel. I walked in first, taking the lead, since I was the only person who'd been here before, and I walked over to the front desk. The same man from the day we lost Laura was there.

His eyes widened as he recognized me,

I told him to look at me, and he did.

"Now," I said, "you're going to tell me where they went. The three men, and the girl."

"I... I don't know." He said, his eyes growing wide. "I never know where they are going. They don't tell me anything, because they don't want to risk being found by Dhampirs. All I know is that they're planning on turning the girl, or they may already have."

His aura told me he was telling the truth.

I slumped a little in defeat, "Shit," I muttered, and walked out with the others, badly needing some vodka to drown out the fact that the girl I love could very well be a soul-less demon at this very minute, and she could have been like this for almost a month.

"What are we going to do?" I said out loud, plopping myself down on the sidewalk, putting my head in my hands, trying to calm myself down, and not being very successful.

"Isn't it obvious?" Dimitry asked, I looked up

"We have to think like a Strigoi."

"That makes sense," Eddie replies, "But how would a new Strigoi think?"

"That's easy," Rose said, "Blood. They want as much blood as possible. And they'd only be able to be out at night. So we'd have to find a place that's open at night and has a lot of people."

"Like a nightclub?" I asked, looking up at Rose.

"Exactly." Rose replied.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had arrived at what seemed like the millionth club, and we still hadn't found Laura. We mingled around, looking for her, but also being very careful not to attract too much attention. We worse jeans and t-shirts with coats to hide our stakes. We had split up into pairs, myself and Rose & Eddie and Dimitri.

"See her?" I asked Rose, trying to be quiet enough so that only she could hear me.

"Not yet," Rose replied, sighing quietly.

I knew she was just as worried as me, maybe even more worried. We both loved Laura.

Suddenly, I saw a small flash of red, like an eye. That was gone quickly, out a door on the other side of the club. I looked over at Rose, and I could tell she had seen it, too. She quickly caught Eddie and Dimitri's eyes, and they were beside us in less than a minute.

"Did you see her?" Eddie asked, his eyes widening

"We think so," I said, "Going out that door." I pointed to the door that we saw who we thought was Laura leave, and whoever it was had a man with her.

I felt a pang of jealousy, but quickly shot it away, she wasn't herself. She was a Strigoi. She wasn't going to have sex with him, she was going to kill himWe sprung into action, heading in different ways but all heading towards the door, weaving in and out of people, making it seem like we were dancing and moving at the same time. I was the first one out the door, quickly followed by Rose, then Dimitri, and then Eddie. We made sure the door didn't close too noisily, in case she was nearby. We walked as quietly as possible, surprisingly I wasn't too bad at being sneaky.

Rose stiffened.

I look at her and mouth, "What?"

"Strigoi," she mouthes back

I know exactly what she means, she has the nausous feeling, I point in front of us and she thinks for a second, and then nods. We quietly walk forward, Rose in front, and me behind. We're approaching a corner.

"Did you really think you could sneak up on me?" Comes a cold voice, and Laura steps out from the other side of the corner.
