It seemed like I had been swimming in the depths of unconsciousness forever, but who knows, it could have been just a few minutes. I couldn’t remember why I’d passed out; I tried to figure it out as I was unconscious. I don’t know if it was minutes or hours later, but finally I regained consciousness.
I opened my eyes, and saw Rose and Adrian looking at me, they seemed worried about me.
“You’re awake, good. How are you?” Rose said
“I… Don’t know,” I replied “Why doesn’t my head hurt?”
“I caught you before you hit the ground.” Rose replied
“Thanks,” I said gratefully, “Why did I p-
Then it hit me,
I remembered exactly why I’d passed out.
I sat up and buried my head in my hands, and began sobbing. Tears flowed from my eyes like a waterfall.
Why Adam, I thought, why him?
Rose hugged me tightly, she knew Adam, and they had been friends.
Adrian spoke for the first time since I woke up
“Who’s Adam?” he asked kindly “All Rose said was the two words that you had said before you passed out.”
I looked up at Adrian, his beautiful green eyes filled with concern.
“Adam is… Was my brother,” I replied, more tears spilling from my eyes.
“Oh my god,” Adrian replied
He hugged me tightly, “I’m so sorry,” He said “He’s the one you were pretty close with, wasn’t he?”
“Yes,” I replied, laying my head on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry,” he repeated, hugging me a little tighter.
The tears wouldn’t seem to stop flowing, and I didn’t know how long I’d been crying in Adrian’s arms, but I suddenly had sprung up from the couch I had been on, Adrian and Rose looked at me anxiously, not sure what to do, since they didn’t know what I was going to.
“NOT AGAIN,” I screamed mournfully, sliding down the wall slowly to the ground.
Then I punched the wall as hard as I could, again and again. Not doing any damage to the wall, since I wasn’t strong, though I did do quite a bit of damage to my hand. It seemed as though Adrian and Rose had both frozen from my outburst, and didn’t thaw out until my knuckles were bleeding, badly.
Adrian ran up to me and restrained me, I fought feebly for about a minute until I realized he wouldn’t let me go, so I just leaned heavily against him and sobbed until it seemed as though I couldn’t cry anymore.
I didn’t even care that I probably looked a mess, my hair was probably wild looking and my make-up was probably running. My eyes were probably all red and puffy too, but I didn’t care. All that mattered right now was the only family I actually loved was gone.
Dead
I wouldn’t see him, I wouldn’t hear his voice, wouldn’t see those amazing blue eyes of his that I always loved and envied, despite I had beautiful eyes too.
Since Adrian had loosened his hold on me, I started rocking back and forth, shaking so hard, I was certain everyone could hear my bones rattling. I stared straight ahead at the wall across from me, I didn’t know if I could be happy anymore.
“Laura?” Adrian said gently, trying to get my attention.
“Hmm,” I mumbled as reply, looking at him.
“What did you mean by ‘Not again’?” He asked,
“When I was in grade 8,” I started “My friend Alexsey had died on November 25th, she was supposed to turn 13 on December 5th. I still remember going to her visitation and seeing her body. I don’t know if I can handle it again, especially when it’s my brother. I want to be with him again, now.”
“No!” Adrian said, fiercely, “Sweetheart, I know you’re grieving, but never say that! Please, I’m going to be here for you, no matter what.”
“I’ll try, and thanks.” I mumbled.
“Here, I’ll bring you back to your room, and I’m going to request they let us be in the same room. We can visit everyone tomorrow.”
“Okay,” I replied
I followed Adrian back to our rooms, and he requested to have a room with me, which they said yes, of course. Adrian had seemed to decide he wouldn’t let me out of his sight for the time being, to make sure I didn’t hurt myself on purpose. He wanted to heal my hands, but I refused, so he bandaged them up.
We had been cuddling on the couch, with my head on his lap, and he was playing with my hair. I had been getting tired, and slowly I fell into a deep sleep.
