“So let me get this straight,” I started, “You temporarily changed your name and moved to Bowmanville to hide from Dimitri?”
“Yup,” Rose replied,
“Okay,” I said, “I understand now. What about the books?”
“I told Lissa about them after she became Queen, never told anyone else. She decided it wasn’t a problem since humans don’t believe in vampires. Hopefully they’ll remain oblivious, or we could have many more Strigoi running around.”
“Yeah,” I said, “That would not be good at all.”
“Exactly,” said Rose, “And we won’t be able to bring them all back most likely.”
“Yeah,” I said, “Oh and using make-up to cover the tattoos was clever.”
“Thanks,” Rose smiled.
“No problem, do you think I’ll get in trouble for being her?” I asked
“Probably not, especially since Lissa is Queen. Neither will Adrian, since it’s not technically his fault that you guessed who he was. How was he supposed to know you’d be able to figure out from him telling you his last name?”
“Right, that’s good.” I replied.
“You like Adrian a lot, don’t you?” Rose asked.
“Yeah,” I replied, blushing, “He’s a great guy,”
“Yeah,” Rose said,
Suddenly, my phone started buzzing. Someone was calling me, I checked my called I.D, my mother, how lovely. I wondered what she wanted, I pressed the answer button.
“Hello?” I said into the phone.
“Laura,” my mom choked out from the other line. I could tell from her voice that something was wrong.
“What’s wrong mom?” I asked, I was afraid,
I heard her start sobbing uncontrollably on the other end of the line. I couldn’t understand anything she was saying. I heard a noise on her end and a new voice spoke into the phone,
“Hello, sweetheart,”
“Daddy,” I choked out “What’s wrong?”
“It’s Adam,” he paused “He’s dead.”
I dropped the phone. Rose caught it before it hit the ground and handed it back to me without a word.
“I’ll call you back later.” I choked out and hung up.
“What’s wrong Laura?” Rose asked in a concerned voice.
As she spoke, her voice seemed to get quieter, as if she was the voice of someone on the radio, or TV and someone was turning down the volume, and my vision was fading to black. I knew I was about to pass out, but I had just enough time to choke out two words,
“Adam’s dead.”
Then everything went black.
