2 hours later, my mother, father, Adrian and I were sitting in a coffee shop in Bowmanville, near the hotel me and Adrian were staying at. I sat in my seat, shifting uncomfortably, since my mom was about to tell us how Adam died.

“It was a Saturday night,” she started

“Adam was at Canada’s Wonderland with Taylor for their 3rd anniversary, they were leaving since the park was closing. They were walking to car, when a group of guys came up and tried to get Taylor to go with them, she kindly declined, but the men weren’t taking no as an answer. Adam protected her, at the cost of his life. They shot him, right in the chest, Taylor said there was blood everywhere, when she was telling us, and the poor girl was shaking. Some cops were nearby and saw the whole thing, and came quickly to arrest the men. It was too late to save Adam though, a nice officer had offered Taylor a ride, and she accepted, asking to be driven to our house, so she could tell us. He cried so much, and she said she had gotten to her knees beside Adam’s motionless body, crying and begging him to stay with her. He was alive long enough to reach into his coat pocket and pulled out a jewelry box, inside was a ring. He had meant to propose to her; he had said that he was planning on asking her right then. He also gave her instructions to go to the place they shared together, and look for another jewelry box in a drawer in his nightstand with a necklace inside, though he said the necklace was not meant for her, but another girl who meant to world to him.”

My mother then pulled out a purple jewelry box, and handed it to me.

“The necklace was meant for you” she said

I opened the box, and inside was the most beautiful necklace I’d ever seen. Tears started spilling from my eyes, as I asked Adrian to help me put it on. I stroked it softly and closed my eyes for a minute, picturing my brother’s face. More tears fell from my eyes as I opened my eyes again.

We talked for another hour, and then my parents dropped me and Adrian off at the hotel, telling us they’d pick us up in a little while for the visitation and funeral. We sat on the king sized bed we were sharing and talked, about the necklace, about my brother, just talked, for hours.

My mother had given me Taylor’s number in case I wanted to call her and talk to her. I called her and talked to her for hours, as Adrian painted, he had brought his art supplies with him. Once I was done on the phone, Adrian stopped painting and looked at me.

“Would you mind if I painted you?” He asked, blushing.

I blushed, too “I guess… but what about that other painting?” I asked, nodding towards the one he currently had on the canvas.

“I’ll work on it later,” He replied

He asked me to lie in the couch, kind of in the position Jack gets Rose to lie in The Titanic, except I was wearing clothes.

“Okay, I’m done” He said, after a few hours

I got up, and stretched, extremely stiff from staying in the same position for so long and checked the time on my phone, the visitation and funeral should be in about 2 hours, so I decided to get us some dinner.

“Hey Adrian, want to get some dinner down at the restaurant before the funeral?”

“Sure,” He replied

After we ate, I got a text from my mom saying they would be outside the hotel in 5 minutes. Adrian and I walked outside to wait for my parents. Shortly after we got outside they pulled up in front of the hotel doors, we got in and started heading to the funeral home where the visitation and funeral were being held. It was still fairly early, so it was still pretty light out.
