Fallen Angel

Chapter 3

"So how did planning Reed's bachelor party go?" Nyx asked as she led Johnny away from where Sue would be walking in. Despite waiting for the alcohol to wear off she was still a little unstable on her feet.

            "Well at first he didn't like it... more concerned with his work than anything else. But I convinced him."

            Nyx saw the smirk on his face and sighed. "You black mailed him didn't you? Let me guess, 'let me throw you a bachelor party and I won't tell Sue about your work.'"

            "You know me so well." Nyx dropped down onto the couch and looked at the digital clock on her phone; it was passed three in the morning. She groaned and Johnny gave her a weird look. "What's wrong with you?"

            "Haven't you looked at what time it is? It's not even the same day anymore."

            "Then go to sleep." He sat down beside her and turned on the TV.

            Nyx glanced towards the direction her room was in and closed her eyes, hopefully Alicia could take care of Sue for the rest of the night, well morning now, because she was just going to stay there and sleep. Johnny glanced at her and brushed a stray piece of hair off her face before picking Nyx up and taking her to her room, most people didn't know this but he could actually act like a gentleman when he wanted to.

            "Night Angel." Johnny whispered to her as he laid her down on her side to avoid hurting her wings.

            Nyx woke up around five in the morning; she got up and changed clothes before making her way to the kitchen for something to eat. After making a sandwich she realized how quiet it was and looked around suspiciously. Alicia and Sue walked in and grabbed some food before sitting down at the table with her.

            "Where is everyone?" Nyx asked.

            "Johnny took Ben and Reed somewhere but didn't really say where to." Alicia told her.

            Nyx nodded and put her dishes in the sink before going to finish getting ready for what remained of the day. Afterwards she went to the roof and flew around the city for fun, after two hours of that though she did have to admit it got tiring. She landed in front of the building just as Sue was coming out with some military officials following her.

            "Who are they?" Nyx asked.

            "They need Reed's help with something. That's all I know."

            "Stop wasting time this is an emergency. Take us to Mr. Richards." The leader commanded.

            Nyx motioned for them to follow her. "I think I know where Johnny took them... unless he chose another place."

            They got into the squad cars and Nyx told them where to go, when they got there they entered the club and Nyx immediately found her brother using his powers to do some unique dance moves. Sue glared at him and Nyx knew this wasn't going to go well, or at least not for Reed.

            "There he is." The general said.

            "Yes." Sue smiled sarcastically. "Unfortunately. For him."

            They walked through the crowd, it wasn't as hard as it was last night at The Club but Nyx guessed that was only because it was still the afternoon. Johnny and Ben saw them and walked over but Reed still hadn't noticed them, she was about to douse her brother with some water just for the fun of it but before she could Reed untwisted himself and saw Sue giving him the death glare.

            Ben leaned over to Johnny as whispered just loud enough for Nyx to hear. "I think it might be clobbering time."

            "Agreed..." Nyx grinned. "My poor brother."

            "Sue. What are you...?" Reed questioned as he stopped in front of his fiancé and turned to see the military generals. "General Hagar."

            "Let's talk somewhere more private." Hagar growled before leading them all out of the room.

            "Unless you need to do Jell-O shots off someone's stomach." Sue glared at him to tell him he wouldn't get away with this.

            "You know him too?" Nyx whispered to her brother as they followed Hagar.

            "Collage... we hated each other."

            "You made a lot of enemies during school didn't you?"

            Reed didn't answer as they were locked in another room so no one could overhear their conversation. General Hagar turned to them and cleared his throat to get their attention. "I'm here on direct orders from the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Personally, I don't like sharing sensitive information with civilians. Especially one who enjoys the spotlight so much."

            Reed looked down submissively as Hagar glared at him. "Always a pleasure to see you too general. What can I do for you?"

            Nyx frowned at her brother's cowardice, how could he be the same hero, leader, or man that was just out there dancing if he couldn't even stand up for himself? General Hagar seemed to sense this too but kept his face void of emotion. "As you may know, there've been unusual occurrences. Officially, we've downplayed their significance, but we're concerned. These anomalies might pose a serious threat to our national security."

            Hagar pulled some pictures out of his pocket and put them down so they could see them. "These were taken by one of our spy satellites three days ago."

            "What is it?" Nyx asked while glancing back up at General Hagar.

            "We hoped Dr. Richards could tell us."

            "I'm afraid I've never seen anything like this. Ben?" Reed turned to his friend.

            Ben glanced at the pictures again. "I would say it's a meteor but the trail's all wrong."

            "It gives off it's own energy. Take a look at this."

            Nyx rolled her eyes at them and General Hagar cut in. "These have been appearing in remote areas throughout the world. Field personnel estimate its diameter to be about two-hundred meters."

            "To find out what this is about, we need a way to locate and intercept that object." Reed informed him. "A sensor could be tied into the Baxter Building's satellite grid. We can pinpoint a location."

            Nyx saw Sue glaring at him and backed closer to Johnny incase she decided to go off on Reed.

            "Good. You'll build the sensor for us-"

            "I'm afraid I can't." Reed interrupted before Hagar could continue.

            "What?"

            "I'm getting married this Saturday. I just don't have the time."

            "Richards your country needs your help."

            "Call Professor Jeff Wagner. He's head of the Physics department at Brown."

            "I expected more from you Richards. Even from your sister or Johnny Storm."

            They left and Nyx glanced at Johnny. "What did we do?"

            "I don't know. Not sure why I'm even here, Reed's the science geek." Johnny replied as he 'flamed on' and flew off, Nyx flying close behind him as they raced back towards the Baxter Building to avoid Sue's rage.
