" Alright, team we need an action plan. Ami where is Raz's current protector?"
Michael grimaced, his arms folded across his bare chest as salmon shaded light broke over the ink like surface of the ocean. Jene sat next to him on the gritty sand that still held the coolness of the fading night. His laboured breathing was faint yet very loud over the muffled rumblings of the tide and the call of the early morning seagulls.
" Are you okay Jene? You seem a little...fatigued?"
" It is not at all Michael that you took me to train at archangel intensity at 4 am. It definitely can't be that. Even angels need regenerating time. Why did you bring me, as well as the human?"
Jene gestured angrily as he finished his sarcasm drenched speech towards a sleepy Ami. Her heavy eyelids were fluttering open and closed sporadically as she attempted to cling awake.
" What? We all need training. I need to stay in shape as that is my role. You are a warrior and therefore need training. We cannot afford to get sloppy on a mission, let alone a human mission where there are innocent lives...mortal lives at stake."
" It does not mean that you get to interrupt my rejuvenating time to go on a gruelling training session run by the Literal Archangel of Protection. The head of warriors. Our training in heaven was not this painful and even then it was carefully planned out!"
" Jene, this was simply training for me. A way for me to ease back into my role properly. I apologise, however, as I did not realise that you were...well nevermind."
" How DARE you? I have recently defended you from a possessed human, or have you forgotten about Al? I've been putting up with this human plane for weeks now just for you!"
" It is to my understanding that this mission is upsetting you. You are more than welcome to swap with another warrior Jene if you are not up for it."
" Show some frigging compassion, Michael. Emotion! Anything!"
Jene exploded with anger, his silver eyes illustrating the turbulent tide of emotions coursing through him.
" Woah, guys...I think..."
Ami's attempt at peacekeeping was suddenly cut off by Michael's scarily calm tone.
"With all due respect Jene. I am an archangel, any emotion I feel is picked up by the energy radiating off the human energy field... egotistical energy. I have never had a human life, I have never been taught to even fake emotions. I am the Archangel of Protection. There is no room for feelings in battle. I apologise for disappointing you however I will not be spoken to like that...Your soul is recognising the human energy field and reminding you of your time here...I apologise for cutting in Ami."
Michael gave a small smile to the bewildered Ami before turning to face the rising sun. The pastel colours of the breaking dawn forming an intricate pattern across his expressionless face.
Next to Ami, the furious Jene kicked at the still chilly sand, the damp particles catching the morning rays and sparkling slightly as they fell down around them.
" Stop with this high and mighty act...just because...
Jene stopped suddenly. Even Ami could feel the tension and anger drain from Jene as swiftly as it had begun.
" I apologise Archangel. I will leave to meditate on the divine realm and to collect myself. I will see you all later, goodbye."
With that statement, Jene's dark silver feathers glistened in the rainbow light of a new day as he took to the air, his somber face cast in heavy shadows despite the brightening light.
Ami coughed softly, the tension clearly too much for her.
" Aah Michael?"
The archangel turned to face her causing Ami to gasp. His eyes were shimmering as brightly as shattered glass while the tattoos spreading across his forearms and shoulders almost seemed alight, their surfaces flickering in the new daylight.
" I never knew. I never realised..I never thought that souls previously incarnated here would pick up the human energy and recognise it...Jene is a good warrior. I must...I do not know. I never realised he would get competitive with me. I train to keep myself adequate and to excel at my role. I did not realise he would attempt to keep up. The human ego is a tricky thing...What must come of it?"
" What indeed?"
The low buttery voice had both Ami and Michael spinning around to stare at the dark silhouette of a man against the rising dawn. The man was pale and tall, wearing dark loose-fitting clothes that hung unhealthily off his frail frame.
" I need you for what is about to happen...brother. Protector...Help."
The last word the man spoke was cut off in a strangled groan as his stifled scream rung into the chilly air around them.
Michael ran forward clutching his brother's frame as the man convulsed and fell.
" Ami get back! Behind the tower!"
Michael exclaimed. Ami quickly clambered back and shielded herself behind the Bondi lifeguard station. Her eyes were wide as she watched the scene unfold before her, shock tumbling through her.
Michael held the trembling Raziel as rainbow light seemed to leak out from him quite quickly. This light emitted off him in a strong aura as well as through the cracks appearing in his pale exposed skin. Ami winced as she watched Michael lift his slightly trembling palm to Raziel's clammy forehead.
" frater evigilare faciatis..........."
At this mutterance, golden light seeped out of Michael's palm spreading in an intricate web across Raziel's clammy forehead.
The intricate light automatically drew Ami closer. Both Michael and Ami watched as wings the same shape and size of Michael's ripped out of Raziel's back. At this, Michael adjusted his position, muscles bunching as Raziel leant backwards, the weight of his sparkling wings un-stabling him. Their texture shimmering like the surface of a bubble as they glowed tremendously with an inner luminance.
Instinctively, Michael popped up his own majestic wings. The two brothers looked at each other, both glimmering with their own golden light. One with golden-white wings that seemed as sharp as swords yet as soft as feathers. One with shimmering rainbow wings that seemed to blur at the edges into the air around them.
Both angels looked up as Ami crept out from behind the lookout tower, their identical golden eyes as bright as the dawn rising behind them.
"ipsi. ipsi infirmitatis suae maximae. simul autem fortior. Venite siblings invenire. Michael. Michael. Ipsi. Simul et virtute infirmitas nostra plurimum. simul."
" What. What. Does that mean Michael?"
Ami questioned as Raziel finished his speech and turned around to study the glistening ocean.
" It means that...He figured it out. Raziel figured it out. Of course, the Archangel of Divine Knowledge figured it out. We gotta unite Ami...Where is Raziel's protector?"
Michael questioned as he furrowed his brow and stared intently into the approaching morning.
