You took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. You had performed so many times before, but your nerves never ceased. You had been performing with Velma ever since her sister 'left'. Currently, Velma was streching. She never felt the nerves like you did. She stopped. "Are you stressed again? (Y/N), how many times do I have to tell you? You'll be fine, you're always great." You smiled at her compliment.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the Chicago theatre is pleased to welcome back Chicago's own Velma Kelly and (Y/full/N)!" You took your starting position as the curtain parted. The worst moment was the one before the music started, the one where your heart beat the loudest. The moment when your eyes take in the audience. It was the longest moment of the whole show.
The music started and you watched as Velma started to sing. "Come on babe, why don't we paint the town?
And all that jazz.
I'm gonna rouge my knees and roll my stockings down.
And all that jazz.
Start the car, I know a whoopee spot. Where the gin is cold, but the piano's hot! It's just a noisy hall where there's a nightly brawl.
And all. That. Jazz." With the spotlight on her, her eyes sparkled and she could do anything. She was stunning and confidence radiated from her like a tigress.
You almost missed your cue, but tried your best to carry on. "Slick your hair and wear your buckled shoes.
And all that jazz.
I hear that Father Dip is gonna blow the blues.
And all that jazz.
Hold on Hon we're gonna bunny hug, I bought some aspirin down at United Drug. In case you shake apart and want a brand new start.
To do. That. Jazz." She gave you a look as if to say 'you pulled it off, now just enjoy it'. You gave her a smile as the dance took you nearer to her side of the stage.
She twirled around the stage as she sang. "Find a flask, we're playing fast and loose.
And all that jazz." You melted into the song, your nerves gone. "Right up here is where I store the juice.
And all that jazz." You made your way across the stage as one, Velma's voice keeping you going. "Come on, babe we're gonna brush the sky, I betcha Lucky Lindy never flew so high. Cause in the stratosphere, how could he lend an ear
To all that jazz?"
The end of the song was nearing, and both you and Velma pushed your hardest to make it spectacular. "No, I'm no-ones wife but," her skirt swung around her thighs as she danced on top of tables.
"oh, I love my life and," You looked at each other and smiled. "Aaaaaallll thaaaaaaat Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaz." You finished by turning your heads to each other. Her face was so close you could see the fine layer of sweat. Your eyes lowered to her lips that breathed heavily. If the crowd had been clapping, you couldn't hear it. The only sound was the beating of your heart in your ears.
Eventually, the curtains closed. Velma walked off with a smirk, leaving you in the same dazed position.
This is heavily based off of the film. And mostly the 'All that Jazz' scene. Velma's parts are in bold, the reader's parts are in italics. This was my first female One-Shot. Do tell me if you would like to see more!
