You were invited to another dinner party by your friend. Don't get me wrong, you loved your friend, it's just, they were all so dull. And if they weren't dull, they were talking about their expensive holidays or their shiny engagement rings. You weren't like them, you were only liked by them, like a puppy that amused them. Nevertheless, you agreed to go. You weren't expecting anything different, you weren't even hoping...
You put on a dress, a pair of heels and your best fake smile and got into a taxi with your friend and their partner. You reached the house and it looked the same as all the others. An extremely beautiful, but equally lifeless house rose out of the cold October night sky. The other guests sat in a clear divide of couples. You ended up opposite a man with smooth hair and bright eyes. As everyone else erupted into conversation, he stayed silent. After a while, he spoke, in a silky voice, addictive to the ears "Pardon me for asking, but you don't quite fit in, what brings you here with all the rabble?" He gave a smile that you couldn't help returning, as he made a small gesture to the rest of the table. "It's my pleasure to be invited and to be here, these people are my friends." You lied because you didn't want to tell your discomfort to a stranger. His stare became steely as he took in your answer. He put out his hand "I'm Hannibal Lecter, forensic psychiatrist. I know people, and I know you aren't being truthful." You took his hand, but looked down. You didn't have a reply. "I'll tell you what, why don't we leave together. I'm not getting much out of here." You thought for a moment: Why not? It certainly can't be more boring than usual. You nodded and both of you left.
The moon was bright in its black pool. The air was crisp, giving you goosebumps. Hannibal put his coat around your shoulders as he asked "Could I please have a name to put with your beautiful face?" It could have just been the cold, but a rosy colour sprang into your cheeks as you replied "(Y/Full/N)." He held out his arm. "Well, (Y/N). How would you like to go back to my abode and have a real dinner?" You linked your arm with his. He seemed a real gentleman, and an interesting one. "I would like that very much."
When you got in, he pulled out a seat for you. You thanked him and he headed to his kitchen to start the meal. The table was filled with candlelight that shone off of the cutlery. You cast your gaze around the room, at the classic paintings, decorative wallpaper and silk curtains. Once Hannibal had a minute to spare, he poured you some wine and sat with you. He was a fan of music, he had everything to qualify him to be just like the rest, but there was something that made him so different. He also seemed interested in you, the real you, not the you that was put on in order not to embarrass your friends.
When he put the food in front of you, you were speechless. "This looks amazing, what is it?"
"I'm afraid that if I tell you, you won't even try it." You gave a short laugh as you cut a bite off. It tasted as good as it looked. He waited for your reaction before he started. He sat so near you that you could smell his breath. He spoke softly, but powerfully. You found yourself deeply infatuated with him, though you didn't speak of this once.
The night got away from you quickly, and he offered to take you home. You wished to stay with him, but understood that you had to go. Standing at your door, he said "It's been lovely, (Y/N)." As you laid in your bed that night, you couldn't sleep for thoughts of Dr Hannnibal Lecter and that cold October night.
Who's ready for Halloween? This time last year I was in New York, ahh the memories. I was going to write this after I had watched 'Hannibal' but I couldn't wait for that, and plus it's October already!
