Allie's POV

When I see that Liam woke up, I freeze. I can't speak. I can't move. I am so shocked. Madi follows my gaze, and she squeals as she pulls him into a hug.

I get up, grab Shawn's hand, and walk out. Madi needs this moment. She needs Liam.

Shawn and I talk and laugh for a while, until I see a familiar figure running down the hallway.

"Mom?!" I cry. I run into her arms. It's only been about a month since I had last seen her, but it feels like years.

"Allie." She says, squeezing me tight.

"How has everything with your boyfriend been?" I ask barely able to surprises my smile, as I pull out of our huge hug. I have missed her so much.

"It's been great." She says smiling. She seems really happy. Almost as happy as she was when dad was alive. "But forget about me." She says waving her hand. "Are you okay?" She asks checking me up and down.

"I'm fine." I say smiling. "Oh crap." I forgot Shawn. "This is Shawn." I say pointing at Shawn. He waves shyly, and sticks his hand out to shake, but my mom, like me, is a hugger. She puts his hand down and hugs him. He seems uncomfortable, but he smiles.

"So," she says smirking. Oh no. She's going to embarrass me. "You are my daughter's boyfriend." She says looking him up and down. "Are you good enough for her?" She asks. Oh my god. She is such a dad.

"Umm." Shawn looks around nervously. "I hope so." He says gulping.

My mom stares at him intensely again for about a minute. He starts shaking slightly.

"Mom." I growl. "Stop."

She nods and turns to Shawn. "It's okay. I like you. You are good for her." She says.

Shawn sighs in relief. "That was scary." He whispers in my ear.

I roll my eyes. "She does that to everyone." I say laughing.

"Where is Madi? And her boyfriend?" My mom asks wiggling her eyebrows. She tries so hard to be a teenager.

"Right there." I say pointing to the door. "But watch out. Liam just woke up, so they might be getting lovey." I say crinkling my nose.

"Okay." She laughs. "You are such a five year old." She adds.

"Well, you try way too hard to be a teenager." I shoot back, smirking.

"Whatever." She says in a valley girl voice and strolls into the room. We are too alike.

"Sorry." I say smiling sheepishly at Shawn. He smiles back, and we just kind of stare at each other for a while. We can get so lost in each other's eyes, it's scary.

I hear Madi and my mom squeal. I walk in to find them hugging, and talking with Liam.

A nurse is in here checking on Liam and it is so obvious that Madi wants her out. If she's not talking with my mom, or smiling at Liam, she's glaring at the nurse.

I laugh. We all talk and laugh for a while. It's nice. But we can't hide from the accident. No matter how hard we want to forget that awful day, it's impossible.

After it's been silent for a while, my mom sighs. "Can you guys please tell me what happened in the accident? I haven't heard the whole story."

We all look at each other with sad looks.

"Well.." I start, but then I choke on my own sobs. All I can see is how twisted my best friends looked. The blood. The damage. The pain.

I look at Shawn, and he rubs my back. I smile and continue.

"Well, we were driving, and we had to stop in the middle of the street, because someone braked." I say with a shaky breath. "I looked out the window and saw a semi-truck coming fast. It was on Liam and I's side of the car. I tried to yell, but it was too late." I cried. "I saw all the damage. The car flipping. The injures you guys had." I say gesturing to Shawn, Liam, and Madi. "The blood. Even though the truck hit me head on, I was conscious for the longest. I lost consciousness when I saw people running over. Then I woke up here." I look around to see everyone's mouth open wide.

They didn't know I saw all of that. "The image won't get out of my head. I was so scared. I was screaming your names. But I couldn't move. I couldn't do anything. I was useless." I say crying.

There were tears in everyone's eyes.

"I'm so sorry." My mom said, pulling me into a hug.

Shawn called me over and hugged me for a long time, and so did Madi and Liam.

We didn't speak about the accident for the rest of the day. We didn't need to. We all knew everything now. And I don't think we all wanted the information that we heard.
