Dear December
Chapter Three
~~~
December smiled at Mrs. Farley over the dinner table "I took care of children at the Ramsey Orphanage, I taught them up to the fifth grade."
"Good. Well Miss Knight it seems Gold Creek has got themselves a new teacher."
December smiled at the woman.
"Thank you Mrs. Farley, could you possibly tell me where I could find room and board?"
Daniel Wade stood outside sweeping the porch of the general store when he saw December walk towards him.
"What are you doing here?" she asked her eyes already smoldering in anger he had to admit she was very attractive, her two different colored eyes one light blue and one dark brown where the most beautiful he had ever seen her long black eye laches seemed to bring them out and her dark hair that always fell out of her hair pens in ringlets around her face.
"I work here" Daniel said putting the broom against the wall "How may I be of service?"
"Mrs. Farley told me Mr. Murray would know of any places I could stay... and she sent me with this list."
Daniel nodded and took the list from her "Follow me." He said walking into the dimly lit store
"Gil you've got a customer." Daniel yelled
"You help them then! That's what imma payin' you for!" Gilbert yelled back
Daniel looked at her and smiled "Well I know of some places."
December gave him a suspicious look "Do you?" she asked
"Yeah, there's here but you'd have to marry Gil since he lives here" he said with a teasing smile but then turned serious "You could live above the saloon, that's been my place but I could just as easily stay in the room downstairs."
"Is there anywhere else?"
"We'll you could ask the Farley's if you could live with them... I think you could ask Hub and Sandra if you could stay with them, but they live on a ranch about ten miles from town."
"Are you sure that those are the only places in Gold Creek I could live?" December asked with only one of her eyebrows rose
"That I know of... here, tell Rebekah and Pete I said hi." He told her handing the small box with the stuff on Rebekah Farley's list inside of it.
"Oh okay Thank you Mr. Wade."
"You're welcome Miss Knight." Daniel said smiling as he watched December leave. He liked her ever since he saw her he had liked her, and the fact that she told him like it was, was even more attractive to him.
~~
"What are you doing here?" December asked shocked when Daniel Wade came into the school.
"Are you going to ask me that every time you see me?" Daniel asked
"We'll I just wondered what you're doing in the school."
"I'm here to fix the window, Mr. Farley told me it wouldn't close I thought your class might get cold with the changing weather and all... I can leave if you want me too." Daniel smiled reveling straight white teeth and dimples. December looked away he was handsome when he smiled, but she would never let him know that she thought that.
"Well if Reverend Farley sent you then I guess it's fine." December said as she moved back to the blackboard and started write with the white chalk
"Did you find a place to live yet Miss Knight?"
"No, the Farley's are nice but they don't really have the room with their children and all."
Daniel nodded thoughtfully
"Have you heard of any new places to stay?" She asked him hoping that he had
"No Ma'am but my offer still remains."
"Mr. Wade How would it look if the new school teacher lived above the saloon?"
"Like the new teacher just moved to Colorado Territory."
"There aren't any...saloon girls who live up there right?" December asked with a frown
"Nope, there aren't any saloon girls in my saloon." He told her. December found it hard to believe, all the saloons in Boston had women in them offering their...services.
"Good Morning Miss Knight!" Rhiannon said as she walked into the building.
"Good Morning Rhiannon, are you ready to learn?" December asked the girl who had in the three days she had been teaching become her favorite student.
"Yes Ma'am." Rhiannon said with a smiled as she took her seat
"Good morning Miss Knight." Emerson and Emily the twins said in unison as the set down at their desks
~~
Daniel looked up to see December march into the saloon she looked determined as usual.
"Mr. Wade I'm here to talk to you about the apartment above the saloon."
"Alright how much can you pay a month?" he asked
"Um... how about 1 dolor a month."
"Deal" Daniel said putting his hand out to December to shake "C'mon I'll show you the place." Daniel told her leading the way upstairs after telling Paul to watch the bar.
