Chapter nine

~~

December and Daniel walked Laura, Jennie and Rhiannon the short distance from the boarding house to school. They had been living in Denver for the past week, and December knew it was important for the girls to finish school. She had sent for Adoption papers for Rhiannon and also sent a wire telling Penelope of her new address.

After the girls were in school Daniel offered his arm for December. She took it as she took in the sights of the city; it reminded her of Boston, and she realized she preferred the country... but she wouldn't tell anyone that, she knew not to complain. She had recently gotten a job at the seamstress, and Daniel had found work at the nearby livery. She thanked God he hadn't gone to work for one of the saloons here. Woman stood in the balcony and their outfits left very little to the imagination. She didn't like the idea of any of those women being near her husband... she didn't like it at all.

"Ember?" Daniel said her name as more of a question and she blushed realizing that he had just asked her a question.

"I-I'm sorry what?" she asked

"I was wondering if since we are both off work, if you wanted to go sightseeing?"

"Oh yes Danny, that would be wonderful!" December smiled as excitement over took her "What is there to see? Can we look in stores?"

~~ ~~

Daniel smiled at December's excitement. He liked the idea of spending all day with just him and her. He loved having a ready-made family but it was nice to get time alone with December. Especially since they had been so busy with the girls and work, he'd like to get to know her better, and maybe steel a few kisses. They hadn't kissed since the night they first came to Denver City two weeks ago.

"Alright but first I need to show you something." Daniel said hoping she'd like his surprise. He had found a cheap saloon not far from the boarding house; he didn't know how she would react to it. She had lived in a saloon before, and he wouldn't have any soiled doves near the building but he had a feeling that she wouldn't approve. The price was fair so maybe they could open a different business if she didn't want to have a saloon.

"Alright..." December said looking at him questioningly. He led her to their new home; the building needed some new paint but all and all it wasn't the worst. Daniel led her to the doors of the saloon he told her to close her eyes as he unlocked the doors. He led her into the saloon and closed the door behind them. They stood in the empty building that housed a large bar right in front of them.

"Open your eyes Ember... This is our new home." he said turning to her to see her expression.

"It's a-a saloon?" she asked looking at him wide eyed

"Yeah." He said noticing she was getting mad, her multicolored eyes narrowed she grabbed the rifle off of the bar and pointed it at him.

"Ember honestly put the rifle down." Daniel said with a sigh almost rolling his eyes but he refrained not wanting to make her even angrier at him.

"Daniel!" December said in a stubborn voice "I will not live in a Saloon nor will I raise our daughters in one, it's a sin."

"Ember, you agreed to marry me... there for you have to live where I can afford. Can we be adult about this?"
