Chapter Fifteen
~
December took in her surroundings, even though the sun had begun to rise the overgrowth of trees made it look as if it was still night. Shadows seemed to follow her and the foul smelling man who took her. She couldn't help but be scared. It seemed as there was no way out of this. She prayed with all she was worth. All she wanted was to see Daniel once more. To tell him how she felt, how she really felt.
She wanted to see Laura, Jennie and Rhiannon who had very much become like Daughters to her, she wanted to tell everyone of them how much she loved them and how blessed she felt to call them family.
But fear made her feel like none of that was possible. Part of her wondered rather George was behind this or not, he had said that he blamed Daniel for most of his crimes and debts but what if he was playing innocent and sent these men living outside of the law to get her and blaming others for his crimes once more?
She had a suspicion but wasn't sure if she was right or not. How likely was it for her to be kidnapped twice in one night? The man had stopped his horse most likely waiting for the others
"Be quiet" the man told December "I mean it we have to be very quiet."
December rolled her eyes from where she set in front of the man on the horse. She hated being told what to do. She tried to place where she was but never being this far from a city in her life she really had no idea. She could hear a stream in the distance and the crisp air caused her to shiver, as she looked around for a means of escaping.
"Drop your weapons." She heard the familiar deep voice that caused her heart to race "Leave the woman and your weapons and no one gets hurt."
"And what will happen if I don't listen?" The man asked causing December to almost gag at the scent of his breath.
"Your funeral." Daniel answered firmly pointing his gun at the man's head. The man responded by pushing her from the horse causing her to hit her head on a rock below. Before she knew what was happening she faded into the darkness that over took her.

Daniel's heart seemed to stop when he saw December hit the cold grown below. He was shocked the man who now raced away had so carelessly pushed her off the horse. He ran to her side easily lifting her in his arms.
"Ember... can you hear me?" he asked checking her for injuries "Em, open your eyes."
He glanced around realizing that his horse had taken off. He cursed his bad luck. December was knocked out but thankfully she wasn't bleeding. He picked her up easily as she weighed next to nothing. And carried her towards what he hoped would be safety.

Daniel wasn't sure how far he walked but he was more than happy to see a small cabin in a break of trees. A child with long brown hair who was picking up firewood stopped when he saw them.
"Are your parent's home?" Daniel asked the kid who nodded and ran inside.
Daniel looked up towards the sky; it was early in the morning maybe four or five from the looks of it. He looked down at December it would be her birthday tomorrow if he wasn't mistaken, Jennie and Laura were planning a big surprise for it. Laura had told him that she was turning eighteen.
"Yes?" the woman who had just come out of the cabin asked.
"Can you please help us?" Daniel pleaded "My wife is injured... and it's to be her birthday tomorrow, we need to rest so we can get back to the city."
The woman seemed to be thinking she crossed her arms and looked at Daniel then to December in his arms.
"How do I know you're not some kind of unlawful or something?" she asked "How do I know that is even your wife?"
