Chapter Seventeen

December hugged her mother once more "We promise to visit soon... and we'll bring the girls!" December told her as she said goodbye. She was eager to get home and see the girls. She missed them severely and felt as though she hadn't seen them in years.
"Danny?" she said his name in more of a question as he helped her into the buckboard her Mother had loaned them.
"Yes?" Daniel asked as he climbed in next to her and took the reins.
"I don't want to live in the city..." she said quietly fearing his reply.
"Oh good... I don't either." Daniel said relieved "I thought you wanted to being from Boston and all."
"No I don't I want to live in the country and have room to grow... like my mother Abilene has." December said smiling she still couldn't believe she got to finally meet her mother... everything fell into place better then she could ever have imagined. She sent a prayer of thanks heavenward as they were off towards the city.
Daniel smiled a smile that was only met for December.
"We've got one stop to make before we go home." December said remembering the letter George had given her for Ryanne.

Ryanne smiled at Kathleen as her best friend made up multiple stories as to why Edgar had left so swiftly. She put her feet up on the sofa which wasn't lady like but no one but Kathleen and her was home so she didn't care.
"Kat I love you" Ryanne said "But I think he left for good... I just have a feeling, the engagement is off... and you know as much as I thought I was in love with him, I'm not that sad."
"Maybe you only thought you loved him." Kathleen suggested "Maybe it's a good thing-" Kathleen was cut short when they heard someone Knocking loudly at the door Ryanne jumped from the sofa almost falling over herself in the process as she made her way to the door. She was shocked when she saw the woman who had made her dress at the door.
"Miss McCain? I believe this letter is for you." December said politely handing the paper towards her. Ryanne noticed the man next to her looked an awful lot like Edgar. She quickly opened the letter recognizing Edgar's fancy script at once
Dear Ryanne,
I am so sorry for everything... I fear your father was right about me I was just marring you for your dowry... I am sorry I lied to you so often and I am sorry this is probably breaking your heart to read.
You deserve better than me you deserve better than us, my love for you was false for I gave my heart away many years ago and never got it back... You deserve a love like I have seen between my brother and his wife a real love honest and true... I believe you can find it with Kathleen's older brother Kade. Ryanne I've seen the way he looks at you and I've heard the way you often spoke of him to me. You both feel the same, so why not tell him? Why not be happy with him? I want you to promise not to mourn over me.... Everything I told you was a lie including my name it isn't Edgar it is George Wade... I don't deserve your thoughts or your tears. Don't waste any more time on the wrong guy when you've got the right one not far from you. Again I apologize for all the hurt I have caused you and for my cruel intentions.

Ryanne was shocked she handed the note to Kathleen first and then December.
"How did you?" Ryanne asked not sure how to finish her sentence.
"George is my brother-in-law" December answered as if reading her mind "This is my husband Daniel... George's brother."
"I can't believe this..." Ryanne said knowing at once what she needed to do "Excuse me" she said practically running past December and Daniel she ran to the house only next door knocking loudly on the door until Kade pulled it open.
"Ryanne what on earth-" Ryanne cut him off as she kissed the man she had loved since she was seven. At first Kade was shocked but quickly recovered kissing her back with the same amount of passion. When she pulled away they both were smiling as was December, Daniel and Kathleen.
"I'm not marrying Edgar...well really his name is George, but it doesn't matter I don't love him Kade I love you... will you marry me?" She asked not caring about the improperness of the question.
"Yes." Kade said pulling her into his arms and kissing her again "Ryanne I have always loved you."

Daniel couldn't help but smile as he watched his girls all hug. When they pulled away all three came at him and hugged him as well.
"Thank you for bringing her back Papa!" Rhiannon said smiling largely. Daniel smiled back at her; he was proud to be called 'Papa' and hoped that someday they'd have a lot more children calling him that.
"I'm so glad you two are safe!" Laura said smiling knowingly as December came back to Daniels side and he put his arm around her.
"Thank heavens you are back! We were all very worried..." Jennie said as she held onto Rhiannon "What are we to do now?"

It took hours to get the girls all calmed down after getting home. They all talked nonstop often interrupting each other. Their excitement was entertaining to say the least, but now Jennie, Laura and Rhiannon all slept soundly in their room as Daniel and December laid awake in theirs.
"I want to build you a home." Daniel told her of his thoughts.
"Danny anywhere you are is my home." December said looking up from where she laid on his chest.
"What should we do with this building?" Daniel asked
"We could turn it into a home for older orphans ones who wouldn't otherwise be adopted?" December said smiling fondly
"I think that sounds like a great idea.... I'm beyond blessed to call you my wife Ember." Daniel told her as she cuddled close to him.
"I am beyond blessed to call you my husband."
