Chapter Twelve

Jacob sat down next to Quil, good, less tension that way. As Billy started to tell a story I continued to stare into the fire and thought about the ways I could control it and play around with it, with even realizing I was doing I began to practice moving my hands slowly and gazing inventively into the fire, it began to shape itself a bit, it started to get higher. I placed my hands on my lap and looked around the circle...good no one was looking at me...except Jacob, I glared at him and he looked away.

I tuned into what Billy was saying then tuned out again, I thought again; about what me and my friends are going to do when they come tomorrow...I barely know the area myself, so how can I show them anything?

Sooner or later I got bored of thinking all together and decided to listen, the look on Seth's face made the story sound important and moral filled so I leaned in so I can hear Billy's voice of the sound of the crackling camp fire.

It sounded more like a scary story...ooooh I love scary stories. 'The third wife was known for her courage because she sacrificed her life by stabbing herself so that the cold lady would get distracted by her blood and her husband could kill her' Okay...not really scary but really interesting.

I listened some more to find out that Billy was actually talking about Vampires and Werewolves being eternal enemies...wow, I never knew Billy had the wild imagination in him. Maybe I should share some of my stories that'll make Billy jump out of his wheelchair and yell 'It's a freakin' miracle!'...I let him finish.

Jacob's Point Of View:

To others I was staring into the fire and facing my father, but really I was staring at Adrienne through side way glances. If I wasn't looking at her I'd be thinking about her...Grr, the normal Jacob Black would find this extremely annoying but this is the new Jacob Black...the one who found someone.

When Billy did finish, Adrienne stuck her hand up, Dad looked at her then gave me a puzzled look, and I shrugged my shoulders and looked back at Adie who was waving her hand impatiently by this time she had the whole group's attention.

'Uh...Adrienne' Dad called, pointing at Adrienne.

'Was that a scary story?' Adrienne asked in a challenging way...Oh Lord.

'Uh...' Dad's voice trailed off.

'Because that wasn't scary at all, I've got tons of stories that'll make you piss your pants!' Adrienne interrupted.

Leah snorted. 'I bet you do' Sam gave me a stern look that said 'We'll talk later'...Whoopie (!) I shrugged it off and went to sit next to Adrienne who was naming the stories for Billy to choose from.

'Adrienne, I don't think that now's the right time to-'Adrienne lifted her hand in my face.

'Wait...Just a sec' Adrienne hushed me sweetly before turning back to face Dad. 'Ever heard of Dracula?' Bad suggestion; a Vampire story to a bunch of werewolves, I flipped Adrienne over my shoulder.

'Sorry guys...I'll tell when I can' I shouted over Adrienne's squeals. They all nodded...and Leah HAD to make a comment...she wouldn't be Leah without her stupid, awkward comment making. 'Make sure you tell before she starts dating a blood-sucker'

'Jacob, put me down!-I was in the middle of a conversation-Put me down you buff-looking fat-humpty!' Adrienne shrieked, thumping on my back with her fists. I laughed at her use of dissing words.

'There's something I need to tell and show you' I insisted after a five minute battle with Adrienne to get her into the truck.

'What is it now?' Adrienne sighed, obviously tired from all that punching and kicking...Damn the Brits are tough.

Adrienne's Point Of View:

Jacob analyzed me for a while then took my hand...this isn't a love proposal is it?-because I thought I made myself clear that I wasn't ready for this-I pulled my hand back and Jacob murmured something to himself and sighed.

'Okay...I'm just gonna come out with it, I'm a werewolf' Jacob blurted out and looked up at me, obviously waiting for a reaction.

'Okay...I'm just gonna come out with it, I'm Peter Pan!' I mimicked Jacob's voice hoping I got it right. I was expecting something like 'Adrienne, I'm madly in love with...' blah blah blah, but werewolf is different...I guess.

'You don't believe me?' Jacob asked incredulously, he asked the question I was waiting for.

'Do pigs fly?' I retorted, feeling tired of Jacob's childish imagination. When I was younger I thought I was one of the spice girls but Jacob's one if way different compared to mine.

Jacob's fist slammed down on the dashboard, I flinched a bit and composed myself. Jacob looked up at me, I gasped. It wasn't the way he mashed up his own dashboard-If we weren't in this situation, I would've found that funny-it was the look on his face it was like he was looking at me but seeing someone else, then he started talking and saying things that didn't make sense at all.

'Why don't you believe me?-Am I knot worth your trust?' Jacob let out a soft humorless laugh. 'Yeah, that's right Bella; you go on back to your filthy stinkin', blood-sucker of a boyfriend...' Jacob paused, looked out the window then back at me again...his eyes were glass-eyed...was he gonna cry? 'It's be as easy as breathing with me Bella, you wouldn't have to worry about a thing' I shuffled away to make a break for it but Jacob pulled me towards him by the waist and held me tight...like he was crushing me.

'I'm sorry Bella, please don't leave me here-I...I'm so alone...--she doesn't even love me, When I kissed her she pushed me away and told me it's not gonna happen again' Jacob chuckled. 'She even had the nerve to call me childish...I won't hurt you again Bella, I know I broke my promise, just give me one last chance to make it up to you' Jacob whispered, his warm breathe grazing my ear.

Was he having some sort of breakdown, Maybe I should say or do something to make it easier for myself instead I just leaned backwards onto Jacob and listened to his heart beat-which sounded really cool-I began to think of what to say to him.

'Jacob...' I started, I looked up at him his eyes were closed.

'Yes, Adie?' Jacob whispered, after two minutes.

'Are you having a break down?' I asked.

'I think so' Jacob muttered.

'Tell me that Quileute story again' I whispered, for some reason I had a huge interest in this whole werewolf thing, maybe I might find something out about myself too.

Jacob scoffed. 'You really wanna hear it?' I nodded and smiled at his reaction

'Okay...' Jacob sighed, but still beaming. Jacob started the truck and began the story about his background and ancestors, Jacob watched my face, he was waiting for a reaction out of me.

'Well...?' Jacob prompted.

'Awesome..., so I'm sitting next to a wolf, huh?' I said, playfully punching him in his arm.

Jacob's Point Of View:

'Yes you are' I chuckled, grabbing her arm and pulling her towards me, the truck swerved a little but I got it back on the road, I was tickling Adrienne with one hand and handling the steering wheel with the other.

'Jacob! Stop!' Adrienne shrieked, still laughing and trying to pry my hand off her.

I enjoyed hearing her laugh, it was one of my favorite sounds, and even though this is the first time I'm hearing it.

'Under one condition' I said smiling.

'Okay...Deal!' Adrienne laughed, still trying to get my hand off her. She didn't even let me say the condition but oh well... a deal's a deal.

'You have to let me take you on a date' I said, turning into her driveway.

Adrienne laughed some more and got out the truck; I followed her out and up the porch steps. 'No...Deal, We're just friends' I laughed and nodded. 'As friends then'

Adrienne still had a smile on her face; she bit the side of her lip and looked at me.

'Fine...Just no restaurants, okay?' Adrienne said. I nodded, inside I wanted to go to the mountain tops and shout 'YES!!'
