Chapter Twenty Eight:
Adrienne’s Point Of View:
Jacob’s eyes quickly opened as if I was unreal; his eyes lit up, that look-that a child had on his/her face when it’s Christmas Day-I smiled at him, and placed my hand on his cheek, he closed his eyes and a tear rolled down his cheek. I frowned and smiled again when he reopened them.
‘Adie…you’re here-You’re really here’ his voice was so weak but so desperate, I moved my mouth around a lot to stop myself from crying.
‘Yes…I am’ I smiled. ‘I’m so glad you hung in there for me’ my knees were starting to ache from crouching down for so long and I was feeling incredibly sleepy due to the amount of elements I’d been using today.
‘I’d hang onto anything for you’ Jacob said, analyzing my face just to make sure that I’m really here. ‘I’m sorry, Adrienne, I was a jerk for kissing Bella-I had no reason to do that’
‘Forget it, we’ve kind of made an alliance…Bella and I are cool’ I said, sitting on my bum and stretching my legs out on the ground.
Jacob chuckled and then groaned in pain. I jumped up and started searching for some form of pain killer, there were five boxes all of them had some long word on it that had to do with pills. ‘I’m fine, Adie, It was good pain’
‘Oh…’ I muttered, sheepishly. I looked at Jacob again, it was obvious that he was in pain but he was trying to hide it because he didn’t’ want to look like a big baby in front of a girl. ‘I just can’t help but think this is all my fault’ I thought out loud, I’ve got to stop doing that.
‘No, No it’s not-Adie I did this to myself’ Jacob assured me, taking hold of both my hands. I turned to look at him, he some how managed to sit up and lean against the wall behind him, he pulled me lightly towards him and I carefully sat myself down-on his left side, to be precise-and rested my head on his shoulder.
‘Now I have something against you’ I smiled, after a couple of minutes of silence. I rested my chin on his shoulder; he turned his head to look at me.
‘And what might that be?’ Jacob smiled back at me. ‘It’s not something scary, is it?’
‘Nope…’ I sighed, contently. ‘You Jacob Black got rescued -by a girl-Admit defeat and I won’t go out there and announce it to the world’ Jacob chuckled, and looked out the window then back at me again.
‘Nah…I’d rather not-Secrets are better when they’re kept under the mat’ Jacob laughed.
‘Fine…’ I pretended to stand up and make it towards the door, Jacob looked at me.
‘You wouldn’t.’ He smirked. ‘You haven’t got the guts’
‘Jacob, If only you knew me so well’ I smirked back, slowly opening the door, and sliding one foot out.
‘Okay-Okay!-Fine, I admit defeat’ Jacob chuckled, raising his left hand in surrender. I smiled and sat where I was sitting before. ‘So…How’d your battle go?’
I’d been waiting for him to ask me that question for ages, I started at the moment Victoria and Riley found me on the cliff. I added big describing words to make the story more interesting, I even mentioned the part where I told Edward that Jacob doesn’t own me, Jacob chuckled at that part and I continued, I included the part where I used my air element to catch the new born off guard, Jacob didn’t look surprised but his gasp made him sound amazed.
‘Yours sounds way better than mine’ Jacob said, after I’d finished.
‘Oh yeah…’ I muttered. ‘I forgot a tiny bit’ I continued to explain about the whole Volturi and the Jane incident-I’m not going to say it was an accident because the ball of fire was meant for her, it’s just that her pet Felix got in the way of it-That reminds me, I need go see Bree before she thinks I’d forgotten about her.
‘You did what?’ Jacob asked incredulously. ‘Adie, you could’ve got yourself killed-The Volturi is like-the Vampire version of the Godfather mob’ I laughed at his referral, Jacob smiled too. I stifled a yawn, so tired.
Jacob’s Point Of View:
When ever Adrienne laughed, I had to smile; it was like a reflex action, I couldn’t help it-she made me happy and I’m never going to forget when she admitted that she loved me in the tent. I was serious about the whole Godfather thing though, I remember when Bella told me about them after Edward came back-Still doesn’t make me feel sick to say his name anymore-she said the blonde one-Jane-had tortured Edward using her abilities to cause illusions of pain-Not that I cared that she tortured Edward-That she’d tried it on her but it didn’t work, something about no one being able to read her mind.
A pang of pain hit my arm again, for the fifteenth time today but it wasn’t as bad as the first time, I groaned and put my left on my right arm. Adrienne watched me cautiously with a hint of worry in her eye. ‘I’m fine’ I insisted. ‘The morphine’s wearing off that’s all’
Adrienne still didn’t look convinced. ‘Pass me that blue box up there-please’ Adrienne got up and got the blue box; she held it in her hand and looked at me…What’s she doing?
‘I can heal you…’ Adrienne blurted out. ‘You won’t need this crap’ before I could say anything, Adrienne put the box back and sat on the bed, this time on the side of my right arm; she looked at me as if she was saying ‘Are you ready?’ I nodded slowly. Adrienne placed both her hands on my arm, I watched as she closed her eyes and focused hard, I felt my bandages started to get moist…was I sweating?
The pain came back again; I gritted my teeth and closed my eyes. ‘Are you sure this is going to work?’ I groaned, letting my head fall back onto the wall.
‘Yeah…It’ll hurt just a little at first, but your injury is huge so this’ll take some time-and my energy…so be prepared to drop me home’ Adrienne explained to me, moving her other hand to my stomach and closing her eyes again.
Sooner or later, the pain went away, I moved my right arm and the bandages just slid off. Adrienne looked at me wide eyed. ‘It worked!-It really worked, I’ve been practicing this for ages and it actually worked’
‘Wow…I feel, so energetic’ I said, standing up. ‘You’re my cure to everything, you know that right?’
Adrienne scoffed. ‘Yeah…But I wish, this wouldn’t have to happen’ and she passed out, I know she told me to expect this to happen but it didn’t stop me from jumping up and carrying her to the truck, ignoring the weird looks I was getting from the pack, my father, the Clear-Waters, Lauren and Sorcha.
‘It’s a bloody miracle’ I heard Sorcha gasp. ‘I guess someone really is up there’ Then receiving a laugh from Paul.
