"Come on Angel! Wake up already!" I felt a sharp pain in my naked side.
"Ow! What the hell?!" I yelled as I kicked the person off of me. A blur flew across the room and slammed into the wall.
"Ow... I always forget how painful your traditional kicks are." My childhood friend and adopted sister, Hitomi, joked as she pulled herself out of the cracked wall. "Anyway Angel, we need to go or we'll be late! Hurry up and put on some clothes."
"Right!" I smiled at her and jumped out of bed. I pulled on my grass top and put on some shorts that were just long enough to cover the tattoo on my hip.
"So where are ou- your parents?" Hitomi asked as I put on my sandals.
"I don't know. Probably out hunting like always. You know them, never letting anyone take the fun jobs."
Hitomi giggled, "since when is killing fun Gi? You've been training too much! Your mind is clouded with stuff your parents would say."
"Yeah, yeah. But I'd rather be cooking than scavenging for goods." I sighed and headed for our front door. "Anyway they should be back soon if you're worried."
Hitomi and I are responsible for gathering fruit for tonight's festival. Our island, and home of the Broyk clan, is holding a festival because we are getting a new chef. Our current chef will be passing the responsibility to his grandson, Haku. My friend and I ran out of our house and into the close by forest.
"Honestly Angel, I'm jealous. After tonight you will be engaged to the new, cute, chef of the Broyk clan!" She clapped her hands together and started jumping from treetop to treetop.
I ran after her. "I don't see what the big deal is. I'm dating him now so how is our relationship going to be any different than it was before?" A long frown appeared on my face when I thought about it. About what I was being forced into.
She almost fell out of the tree she was in and let out an enormous gasp. "You mean you don't know?! Angel... you're going to be treated like royalty now!" She jumped down and held her hands over her heart. "Everyone in the village will treat you like a queen and give you free food and riches. Instead of being 'The angel of Death', you'll be 'Angel the goddess!'"
"Hitomi, I already have plenty of money." I saw the sparkle in her eyes. She's wants this for me but I don't. I don't want to be treated any different than I have been and I don't want to marry Haku either. He used to be so nice and kind but the only reason why he even bothered to date me was because of my fighting skills and body. He can be a creep too. When did I ask to date a 23 year old?! He's 6 years older than me. We started dating when I was 15 so I've spent two years with the guy. Of course I have to marry him though. It's tradition for the chef to pick his bride, whether she wants him or not. Although, our past chefs have always had loyal women at their sides. I guess Haku will be the first exception.
"Hitomi... I don't think-"
"Oh! I totally forgot! We need to get fruit! Oh man we'll never get enough in time!" Hitomi started pulling on her short hair which I knew must hurt.
"It's fine. Let's spilt up and search for food. We'll cover more ground that way, okay?" She smirked at me and raced off.
"I'll look over here! Let's meet back up an hour before the festival so we can get you ready!" I couldn't see her anymore, because she fled into the bushes and thick shrub, but I could tell that she was beaming. Hitomi was always so cheerful, but that also made it hard for me to talk to her about Haku.
"Oh well. Not like I can do anything about it now." I ran up to our island's mountain and jumped to the very top by expanding and strengthening the muscles in my legs (A/N: it's similar to what Pitou does but at the time of creating this character, I wasn't aware that someone like Pitou existed... oops). Looking over the area, I spotted several fruit bushes. "Bingo!" I hopped down and ran to where I saw the shrubs.
