"When will she open her eyes, mama?" Meowed a young kit voice."She'll open her eyes soon, give her some time, Pebble." Meowed a soothing and soft voice.
"It's okay, Cinder, take as long as you need to." Meowed the soothing voice again.
Right, I'll open them when I am ready, I will open them when I am ready.
"Come on, Cinder! The leader, Swan Moon, is going to call a meeting!" Meowed the young kit voice.
Swan Moon? Who's that?
Cinder opened her green eyes, the sunset from outside casting an orange light inside the nursery, feeling moss beneath her as she saw a light grey with green eyes kit in front of her. "Well, her eyes are open now." Cinder heard that soothing voice again from a cat next to her. "Great!" Meowed the kit in front of her. "I'm Pebble, your sister!" Pebble kit meowed, her tail swaying proudly. "I'm Cinder." Cinder meowed to Pebble. "I already know that, you had your eyes closed forever!" Pebble meowed, rolling her eyes. Before Cinder could make a reply, Pebble quickly turned to the cat next to Cinder. "Mama, can we go outside now? Please!" Pebble meowed, Cinder turned to the she-cat next to her. The she-cat had green eyes with white fur and grey stripes along her back, she smiled at Cinder. "Hello Cinder, I'm Clover, your mother" Clover meowed softly then turned to Pebble and sighed. She nudged Cinder to Pebble. "You both can go outside the den now before Pebble kit goes out herself from how impatient she is!" She meowed. Cinder just noticed how she was inside a surrounded by leaves den, leaves on the top of the den as sticks held up and supported the leaves on the top and sides.
"Cinder, are you coming or are you just going to stand there and look at the insides of the nursery all day?" Pebble meowed, already at the entrance of the den. "I'm coming!" Cinder meowed, catching up to Pebble as they both exit the nursery, ready to explore.
Pebble and Cinder ran into the clearing, seeing all the dens that lay from the right and left. "We should explore the trainee den!" Pebble suggested. "Well- Pebble!" Cinder meowed as Pebble ran to the den across the nursery. Cinder raced after her. Once Cinder caught up to her, she tripped over a tree branch. Cinder got to her paws again as she was surprised to see two cats, she-cat and tom, sitting in front of her and Pebble. "Is this your sister, Pebble?" Meowed the tom, looking at Pebble. "Yeah, her name is Cinder. She's very clumsy as you saw, I apologize." Pebble meowed, her tail waved in the air proudly as she glanced at Cinder.
What! No way, she did not just apologize for me! I can introduce myself just fine!
Cinder glared at her sister before meeting the tom's eyes with stubborn bravery. "Hello Cinder, I'm Thrush." Thrush meowed, he had brown fur and dark brown ears and his eyes was an icy blue. "It's nice to meet you." Cinder meowed. "I'm Pepper, Thrush's sister." Pepper meowed, she had dark brown fur with white stripes along her back to her tail, her soft blue eyes on Cinder. "Hello, Pepper." Cinder meowed. Pepper stared at her with a soft smile as their eyes locked on each other.
Huh? Why is she looking at me for a long time? Should I do something? Her eyes are pretty...
Cinder stared into Pepper's eyes as she felt as if she was locked in time all of a sudden, as though Pepper's eyes had locked her there. She felt a weird feeling creep inside her as she stared into Pepper's ocean eyes. She was so lost in Pepper's eyes that she didn't hear Pebble calling her name. "Cinder!" Pebble meowed loudly. Cinder blinked as she turned to Pebble. "Are you okay?" Pebble asked. Cinder nodded embarrassedly. "Yeah, are you both okay? It was as if you guys were stuck in time or something!" Thrush meowed, looking at Pepper and Cinder. "I called your name thousands of times too." Pebble meowed, narrowing her eyes. Pepper got to her paws and padded into the trainee den silently. "Anyways, I should go out training with my mentor." Thrush meowed, turning but Pebble stopped him. "Wait- could I go?" She asked. Thrush turned. "You can go with me when your a trainee, but not now. Your still a kitten." He meowed. "Fine.." Pebble meowed with a sigh. Thrush turned once again and padded to the entrance of the camp. The camp was guarded by long grass around it. Cinder noticed how sad Pebble was that she could not go with Thrush.
Maybe she likes him a lot, that's why, like how I love her and mom.
That couldn't be it, how Pebble looked at Thrush was something different. Cinder didn't have enough time to think before she saw Pebble racing to the den next to the trainee den. She got to her paws, racing after her. Pebble stopped quickly at the entrance of the den. Cinder, racing after her, bumped into her as both of them tumbled into the warrior's den with a big THUMP. Cinder quickly got to her paws as she saw a tom in front of her. Pebble, right beside her, did the same. "Ugh! Kits, what are you doing in the Tribe Cat den?" Asking the tom in front of her. "N-Nothing, sorry!" Pebble meowed, quickly nudging Cinder out the den. Once they had gotten out the Tribe Cat den, where the cats that had completed their trainee training rest, they raced to the den across from it. "Come on Cinder!" Called Pebble as she was ahead of her as they raced across the clearing to get the den across. Pebble stopped dead in her track as a cat was in front of her, Cinder stopped right behind her as both of them looked up at the pale blonde with green eyes she-cat in front of them. "Don't think about barging into the treatment den!" The she-cat meowed. "We're sorry, we just wanted to explore." Cinder meowed behind Pebble. The she-cat sighed, "It must be your first time out the nursery, correct? I'm Puffin, the herb cat." Puffin meowed as her tone was a little softer. "I remember you kits when I helped your mother birth you both. Cinder and Pebble, right?" Puffin meowed. Cinder and Pebble nodded. A black with white spots on his pelt and yellow-eyed cat walked past Puffin grumpily. "Who's that?" Pepper meowed. "That's my apprentice, Star. Don't mind him, he's always grumpy but he listens and learns very well." Puffin meowed. Star glanced at her before padding on, his hair covering his eye and his tail dragging on the ground. "What are herb cats?" Cinder asked. "Good question, herb cats are cats that heal other cats. When they are a trainee, they learn about all the different herbs and what they do with them. Since they do this, they don't train on fighting skills or hunting so the clan must do it for them. That's why herb cats don't fight in battles against other tribes," Puffin purred. "Tribes?" Pebble asked. "Yes, tribes. There is Breeze Tribe, Oak tribe and Waterfall Tribe. We are in Waterfall tribe, it's where we belong." Puffin meowed. "We're called Waterfall tribe because we live next to a big waterfall, right?" Pepper asked. Puffin nodded. "So what if we want to become a herb cat..what will we do?" Cinder asked. "You'd tell me or whoever is the herb cat, but it is important that you think a lot before becoming a herb cat. It takes a lot of time and dedication. You won't be able to have a mate or kits due to your clan needing you most." Puffin meowed, she sighed sadly. "Oh..whats wrong?" Pebble asked. "Nothing, but if any of you are thinking of becoming a herb cat, I urge you to think long and hard." Puffin meowed. Pebble nodded and Cinder did as well. "How will we know if we want to be a Tribe cat or herb cat?" Asked Pebble. That's up to you, you'll know when the times right. Now you kits go back to your mother, but Cinder stays here." Puffin meowed. Pepper glanced at Cinder. "Why isn't Cinder coming?" Puffin asked. "I need to talk to her. Go along now Pepper." Puffin meowed softly. Pepper turned, running to the medicine den.
"What is it?" Cinder asked. "Cinder, there is something I must tell you." Puffin meowed, her eyes now serious. Cinder tilted her head but nodded. "Moon clan, our ancestors, had a hard but great plan for you the moment you opened your eyes, Cinder." Puffin meowed. "Huh?" Cinder meowed. "Usually when a cat is chosen to be a leader, they have 'moon' after their name. Swan Moon, for example, his name before he became a leader was Swan but after he became leader his name is Swan Moon" Puffin meowed. "Yeah..but what about him?" Cinder asked. "There's a prop-" Puffin was about to explain but she turned to see a glaring Star across the camp. Cinder turned, seeing Star glaring at Puffin. "What's going on?" Cinder asked. "N-Nothing, you can run along now young kit." Puffin meowed, padding back into the treatment den. Cinder nodded and raced to the nursery.
What was that all about? It was like she was trying to say something to me but Star had signaled her not to or something. I'll figure out later.
Cinder padded inside the nursery, only to find her mother and Pepper asleep beside each other. She yawned as she saw it was night, she padded to her sister. She would lay down beside her, feeling her warmth. Pepper slightly woke up. "We'll be trainee's in a couple of moons. Imagine that." She meowed sleepily, closing her eyes. "Yeah, I can't wait." Cinder meowed before closing her eyes and drifting to sleep.
The night was silent as every cat began to go to sleep in their dens till only the crickets were heard.
