Cinder, with the help of Pepper put up extra ferns, bushes, and leaves on the nursery. These things protected the kits, and queens from the battle outside the den. Cinder knew she couldn't evacuate the queens, and kits because Pebble, and her mate, Thrush, could be lurking around somewhere. "Okay, I think that's the rest of it." Cinder nodded towards Pepper. Pepper nodded, smiling back. Cinder smiled back, she knew that Pepper was trying her best to not break down into crying. Cinder knew her life was silently breaking apart, just like hers. She knew what it was like to carry kits, and things just don't work out. "Hey, Pepper I know you're going through a lot so-" "Cinder," Pepper interrupted, before inhaling, and letting out a long sigh. "Just stop." Cinder quickly opened her jaws. "I know, but I just want you to know I'm here-" Pepper stared at her paws, she looked tired. "We're not apprentices anymore, so stop saying it like it's going to get better." She meowed, her voice sounded dark, miserable, and quiet with sadness. Sadness that inspiring words cannot make better. Pepper's legs trembled as if she was almost going to fall from tiredness. Cinder closed her jaws. Pepper looked at her, such sadness radiated from her, Cinder felt as if the world was crumbling around her. "I'm going to help the others, I'll rest later." She meowed, before padding off, leaving Cinder by the nursery.
The sun was setting, it's rays sending a blood red-ish color throughout the sky. Cinder jumped onto the big rock, looking at the camp. Everything was in place with extra protection. Every cat was in their places. Now all there is to do is wait. Just wait.
The moon was now in the middle of the sky, the only light source they had in the dark, and starless night. Cinder, still sitting upon the rock and alert, looking down at her now tiring tribemates. They were beginning to get tired. After all, they had worked all day preparing for battle. They deserved some rest. Suddenly, a shiver ran up her spine. They can't rest, at least not now. Thrush and his crew could easily be behind every bush, just waiting for them to fall asleep. But as the night carried on, her eyes dragged. Her eyelids felt heavy, and her body felt heavy with the weight of the day. The night's cool and quiet sounds oddly made her feel safe. She closed her eyes.
Wind swirled around her as she fought to stay on the ground. Any moment the wind could pick her up, and fling her. Her claws dug into the earth. All around her lifeless trees swayed harshly from side-to-side. "Cinder..." A voice whispered.
Cinder woke up to hissing, screeching, and yelling. She didn't realize she had fallen asleep. Opening her eyes, she looked down at camp. It was flooded with cats fighting, the scent of blood was in the air. She got to her paws. I fell asleep! How could I? She looked down at the cats fighting, knowing she had to help. Quickly, she pushed her paws off. She jumped off the rock, looking around for any of her tribe that needs help. With a yelp of horror, she realized her tribe was losing in the war. Suddenly, she felt something shove into her side harshly. So harshly, it knocked the breath out of her and sent her falling over onto her side. She looked up, her eyes with slits. Then she realized, it was Thrush. The brown tabby tom stood in front of her, his icy cold eyes looked down at her with disgust. "Hello, Cinder." He meowed, his extra long claws unsheathing. She narrowed her eyes, her claws unsheathing. "Thrush." She replied with a loud hiss. "Where's my sister, and what have you done to her?" She hissed, standing up. She faced him with a growl. "Your sister?" He hissed, his tail lashing. Before she could respond, her jumped on her, his claws digging into her shoulders. She hit the ground on her back hard. She growled, trying to get out of the larger cat's grip. "Your sister is with me, and we will rule over this forest." He hissed. "She didn't come willingly, I know. You forced her!" She yelled at him. "You foolish scrap of nothingness. Always thinking you know what is right." His hiss now turned into a evil chuckle. "She joined me willingly, in fact, she said she wanted nothing to do with you." He smirked. Cinder shook her head. He's wrong, so wrong! Pebble's my sister, she would never abandon me. She raised her paw before striking him in the eye. He hissed, almost falling over as blood spilled from his eye where she had clawed it. She rolled to her paws. She then pounced on him, clawing his muzzle. "Where is my sister?" She hissed, her claw on his neck. Even though it was clear to see Thrush was in pain, he still laughed. "Your sister isn't here." He chuckled. She dig her claws into his neck. "Tell me where she is!" She hissed. "She has my kits, why would you think I'd send her to battle, mouse brain!" He raised his voice. She growled before clawing his neck deeply.
