Amber's POV

Falling asleep was difficult for me; I kept having nightmares about Blue Moon and each nightmare would keep me up for about an hour. Around 4:30 I stopped trying to fall asleep and just stared at the dark ceiling for hours. I must have fallen asleep again because the next thing I remember was my mother's face, just like it was the day before the attack, then my loving fathers, then my brothers. But just as I thought this was going to be a happy dream I witnessed, yet again, my mother being torn to pieces by the rogue wolves, I watched as they played a deadly game of tug-of-war with her body. I knew I couldn't do anything to help her; this was not just a dream, this is a memory, an evil haunting memory.

My mind raced and the images of my mother faded away and were replaced by the images of my father. His smile turned into a smirk with a dead look in his eye. I knew that when a wolf lost their mate they often went crazy or became unstable, and that's just what my father became; an unstable, angry, violent man. I watched as my father beat and whipped a younger version of myself, then when I thought he was done I witnessed him shifting on me, again; forever branding me with his claw marks.

The images of my father disappeared and my brother's face came to the front of my mind. We had been close, but when he started hanging out with the Alpha's son and his friends we grew farther and farther apart, and all because he was running with the Top Triad. My brother had become cold and heartless towards me, and it only got worse when our mother died. He completely ignored me, and when others were pummeling me into the ground he watched from a distance, there were some times where I saw him pull out his cell phone and record the whole beating.

The images of my family disappeared and my mates' face appeared in their place. His long brown hair sweeping over to one side, his deep brown eyes that held nothing but pride, his broad shoulders strong enough to carry the burdens of the pack. Every physical thing about him was desirable, but the look on his face the day he rejected me was burned into my memory, and put me to shame. "Why don't you go die in a ditch somewhere so I can find a mate worthy of the alpha female title." His words played over and over in my head and I couldn't make him stop. My chest hurt as I was again reminded that I was unwanted. The pain in my chest became more intense as my mate's face contorted in pain.

I let out a small sob as the pain spread to my abdomen and seemed to grab a hold of my heart. My mate's face suddenly changed to one of evil pleasures. My vision shifted so I could see him in his room, on his bed, mounting a woman. His fit body was hovering over the woman in all his naked glory. He moved so he was aligned with the woman's entrance and thrust forward. I let out a scream as the woman under my mate moaned in pleasure, but they didn't stop their 'love making'. My heart felt like it was ripped out of me and thrown onto hot coals. My body itches all over. I wanted nothing more than to beg the Alpha here to kill me now. I wasn't any of the things those boys said I was, I was not pretty or strong, I couldn't even hold on to the one thing in life every wolf had a claim to. I lost my mate and now had to watch as he was intimate with another woman.

Tab's POV

I was walking down to the infirmary with Myles. I had hoped Tyler and Zack had come up with a name by now, but understood when they told me they had to think about it more. We were about half way into the infirmary wing when we heard someone shriek. On alert and ready to fight, Myles and I ran to the room the screaming was coming from, only to realize it was her room. We ran in, almost pulling the door off its hinges and searched the room for any threats. When we found none our attention turned back to the still screaming girl on the hospital bed and the doctor trying to console her without touching her.

"What happened?" I yelled to the doctor.

"I don't know. I think she was having a nightmare or something! I tried strapping her down so I could run some tests without getting injured myself, but when my hand touched her arm I noticed she's running a fever." The doctor explained.

"But wolves don't get sick, whether they're a runt or not, the shifter gene won't allow it. The only time a wolf gets a fever is when they're about to shift for the first time." Myles said with confusion. Another ear piercing screech came from her as the door flew open again.

"What the hell happened?" Dad boomed.

"All we know is that she has a fever." I quickly told my father without taking my eyes off her. Her back was arched and about a half a foot off the bed, she was sweating a lot, and her face was red from all the screaming.

"But wolves don't get sick, she can't be sick." Dad was dumbstruck; he didn't understand what was going on, none of us did.

"That's what we thought, but she's burning up." I said as I walked over to her shaking form. I inhaled deeply, trying to clear my mind and focus on what was wrong when I caught a scent that seemed familiar. I frowned and sniffed again before my eyes widened, I spun around and looked Myles in the eye. "Go get Kole. NOW!" Myles was out the door the next second sprinting to find Kole.

"What are you thinking?" Dad stepped closer to me.

"I've got a hunch." The screaming got louder. Half of the room held their ears and the other half winced at the shriek.

Three minutes after I sent Myles out, Kole burst through the door with Myles behind him panting. As soon as Kole entered the room, his eyes widened and went straight to the girl. He sniffed the air and frowned. The look on his face told me I was right to involve Kole.

"Well?" Kole was my last shot, the last piece of the puzzle.

"She's not a wolf..."
