Sitting at the breakfast table I flipped through the cartoon page on the daily newspaper chuckling at the idiotic jokes.

"So I was wondering if you can cover the book store this afternoon?" My Mom asked while spreading peanut butter on freshly made toast.

"Sure, but I have to go put grand's flowers today. I'll be over there around 2." A couple of ok we're shared before she grabbed her purse from the chair next to me, planting a small peck on my head. She was heading off to work. My mother had been a nurse at the only hospital in our small town for as long as I could remember.

"See you later, Lana. I love you." She gathered her things onto her arms, rushing towards the door.

"Love you the most!" I yelled over to her before hearing the front screen door close with a crash.

My long fingers wrapped around the bouquet of bright yellow sunflowers. They were beautiful and silky just like she liked in the spring.

My grandmother was a very important part of my life. She always will be. Losing her close to a year ago was the hardest thing I've ever been through.

The feeling of wanting to call her and tell her about my day, but then I remember that I can't brings me physical pain. I will never hear her voice, feel her brush my hair and braid it during the summer as I read on the porch.

We all die at one point, but that's the kind of thing you don't think will happen to you or someone you love. You can be here one minute perfectly fine and happy and gone the next.

It's unfair.

'Pray, pray and love because god is good and he loves us. He makes no mistakes.' My mother preaches like my grand's passing hadn't affected her because it was meant to be.

Bullshit.

"Lana, hey !" Someone yelled from across the street. I turn to see the rosy cheeked girl start to approach me with a pastel yellow colored bike at her hip.

"Hey, Red." I give her a small smile, letting my hands fall along with the bouquet of flowers to my hip.

The freckled girl walked towards me breaking into a jog when crossing the street.

"I just saw you and wanted to thank you for the book suggestion. My friend is loving it so far. He's into some gory shit." Her cheeks flared red in mention of this boy she spoke about.

I shrugged, " I'm glad. Couldn't get through it myself, but I'm sure it's great." We begin to grow inpatient in the awkward silence that has fallen upon us.

"So, I'll leave you to whatever it was you were about to do. That's all I wanted to say." She pulls her hair behind her ear while nodding.

I watched her walk away, it was something about the way she carried herself, it intrigued me. Why? I wasn't quite sure.

"Wait, what's your name?" I shout out to her making her turn from across the street. "Sadie! Sadie Sink!" She yelled before waving and running to catch up with a boy I didn't get the chance to identify.

She had a pretty name. Sadie. It suits her, that's for sure.
