Alex POV
5 Years earlier
My eyes automatically land on her for the millionth time. Miranda. She is on the other side of the field, with all other cheerleaders, giggling and throwing her hands and Pom poms in the air, clearly unaware that I am looking at her.
I have dated many girls on and off but I don't know what it is about this one that made me- Alex Frost stop from asking her out the second I saw her for the first time in the History class.
"You are staring at her." Logan shakes his head at me. I pull my eyes away from Miranda and look at my asshole friend who is laughing showing all his 32 teeth which I so badly want to break.
"Shut it, douchebag." I sip a gulp full of water before starting towards the parking lot. I want to look at Miranda for one last time but restraint because knowing Logan he will never let me live that down.
"Are you going to ask her out or just stare her like a creeper?" Logan asks casually. I take my mobile out of my bag and look at it to avoid answering Logan's question.
"Let me tell you something. All these charm and looks of yours are gold to nothing if you ain't gonna use them."
I sigh. "I know. I am going to ask her out tonight at the party."
"Cool. I will meet at your place in two hours."
"Cool." We part our ways, moving towards our own cars. I am going to ask Miranda our for a date no matter what today. Baring that thought on my mind, I start the engine of my car.
I unlock the front door and let myself in, silence welcomes me. Nobody is at home, mom and dad have taken Nic to her dance competition in Connecticut. The first thing I have done this morning is letting Emily, our housekeeper, know that I am having a party tonight and told her to make sure that the artefact in the living room should be hidden away for the best- knowing the someone puked in one of the vases last time. Emily didn't say much but disapproval was written all over her face. She left this afternoon leaving the house to myself till tomorrow night and I am going to make the best use out of it.
After taking a quick shower, I move to the kitchen to see if Emily stashed away all the food and made space for drinks. Thankfully she has done that. I am scrolling through the messages when I hear the front door opening and heard voices coming from the foyer.
A frown forms on my brow, Logan can't possibly have arrived so fast. I march to the foyer to check who it is, hoping it is not my parents who decided to come back early. As I neared the foyer, I could listen to the giggling sound, the voice was becoming clear. Finally, I find two people supporting each other through the hallway as if they are drunk out of their mind.
"Theo?" Excitement is brewing in my chest. it has been nearly one year since I last saw Theo at Christmas. Theo glances up and he looks at me through his hooded eyes and smiles weakly.
"Hey, little brother." Theo walks towards me a little unsteady on his feet and staggers a little on his way. He gives a side hug.
On a closer look, his face looks shallow, his skin waxy and is in a weird shade of green, his eyes have huge purple bags under them. he appears much more thin, looking more like a skeleton.
