It was late at night, you laid in your bed, about to fall asleep when you heard a knock at your door. You looked at your clock. It was 11:00pm. Your parents were asleep and you hoped they wouldn't wake up.

You had a feeling who was at the door. They would come by your house ever so often. You opened up the door and seen Steve standing there, shivering in the cold night air. You smiled at him, he returned it, but it was halfhearted.

"Can I come in?" He asked. You nodded.

"Yeah, you know your always welcome." He smiled again, walked inside and sat on the couch. "Was it your dad again?"

He nodded and put his head in his hands. You put your hand on his shoulder. "It's going to be okay."

"No it's not! It's not okay and it never will be!" He stood up and pulled out his wallet and threw it on the ground. Steve's Dad always gives him money when he comes back home, to make up for what he did. It doesn't help Steve. No matter how much money he gets it never makes up for it. "D*****!"

He paced the room and ran his fingers through his messy hair. "I hate this, (Y/N)! I hate it! I hate him!"

You stood up and placed both hands on his shoulders. "Hey, hey, I know this hurts you. I'm sorry. But you have lots of good people in your life. You got Sodapop, you got the gang, and you've got me. I know that won't make up for it but we will do whatever we can to help you." You wrapped your hands around him and hugged him tight. He hugged you back too. You both stayed like that for awhile.

When you pulled away you seen tears sliding down his cheeks. You haven't seen him cry since that day at the park. That's the day you first talked to Steve. When you first became friends. That was eight years ago. You wiped away his tears and kissed his cheek.  "It's everyday. Everyday!" He cried.

"Yeah I know. It will be okay," You whispered. "Remember, you're not in this alone."

You grabbed his hand and squeezed it. He looked down at your hands and then back in your eyes. "Thank you, (Y/N)."

"Just remember that your always welcome. You don't have to knock." You've told him that a thousand times but he knocks anyway. "And remember I'm always here for you. No matter what time of day. No matter what time of night. I'll always be here."

He nodded. "Can I stay here tonight?"

"Yeah, of course. I'll go grab to a blanket." You stood up and grabbed a blanket and brought it back to him. You were about to walk away but he stopped you.

"I know I said this earlier but I want to say it again. Thank you. Thank you for everything. I don't know what I'd do without you."

You smiled. "You're welcome. I don't know what I'd do without you either. You're my best friend."

He smiled back at you. "Goodnight, (Y/N)."

"Goodnight, Steve."
