okay technically james's bday would be in summer but we're just gonna ignore that, special chapter for the author's 17th bday

It was the morning of James's 17th birthday, and typically the whole school was all over him. When he sat down for breakfast, immediately owls flew towards him, so many he couldn't even count. He recognized a few of them, there was Pig, from Uncle Ron, his own brown owl that looked like it had been sent by his Granny and Grandad, one of the shop owls from Uncle George, and most of the rest he did not recognize, various Post Office or other personal birds. Most of these flew off as soon as their package was dropped, but a few stayed to watch. His eye was immediately drawn to his Granny's handwriting so it was their present that he opened first. He laughed as he saw the watch, it was a tradition to give a wizard a watch for his 17th birthday, but this watch in particular (picked by his grandfather for sure) was definitely unconventional. It appeared to be a Muggle child's toy watch that snapped in a circle when hit against the wrist. James's friends were fascinated but James himself had spied the homemade fudge in the pack and ripped it open, threw a piece to Lily and then ate two pieces himself. Even in the time that it took for him to eat the the fudge, more and more owls arrived to drop more packages and letters on the mound in the middle of the table. When James stood up he could just about see the friend opposite him. He wondered who had sent all of the other presents, this was far more than there was in his big family who already spoiled him. James took an envelope at random and opened it.

"Happy birthday James Potter.

He grinned and passed the card to his best friend beside him, who looked shocked. He opened another package. It contained a fancy new book about Defense, sent to him by the author according to the birthday card.

More cards from fans and admirers, James's favorites were the three people who donated to the charity that his family had set up to help people affected by the war, rather than sending James presents he really didn't need. Some of these people were much to extravagant with gifts, strangers sending him solid gold Gobstones and Phoenix feather quills was quite weird and unnecessary. James had always known him and his family were famous but most of the time his parents had kept them away from the fame as much as possible. Today however, James was discovering how much people seemed to care about his life. A shy but smiling first year Ravenclaw walked towards him.

"James Potter? I was wondering if you could sign this for me?"

She held out a copy of Witch Weekly with a glossy picture of six year old James with his front teeth missing.

"NO WAY!!! Does anyone have a better picture of me? I can't sign this, my teeth are ugly!!!"

"James, mate, what do you think of this one?" His friend held out the newest issue of the Quibbler: James Sirius Potter Special Edition. James grudgingly scrawled a signature, he was joking, he didn't actually expect someone else to have a picture of his face. Now he noticed the wide collection of newspapers on the table, all of them had various headlines about him.

"First Potter child comes of age: We never expected this.
