AUTHORS NOTE: Long chapter because i wanted to get a load of things in, the only bit i actually like in this chapter is the start and the end, some little scenes with Harry and Ginny. The next chapter will be the christmas chapter which i'm really excited for, it's gonna be a happy chapter with some cute family interaction. if you don't like how this story is going then don't worry there will be a change coming soon, but if like me you like the slow sad parts of the story where harry almost dies, there will be some more of that to come too.Ginny hated knitting. It took so long for so little reward, there was no thrill or risk or suspense, the worst thing that could happen was that she made a knot, the best that could happen would be finishing. However she had 3 more jumpers to finish before Christmas, the entire family had decided to make Mum's famous sweaters because no one quite knew Christmas without them and it was the easiest way to get through the first holiday without her. Kreacher had offered to knit the sweaters for her, but Ginny had declined, it felt like something she should do herself, like when Harry insisted on digging Dobby's grave alone. It passed the time anyway, she had the month off from work until after Christmas and there wasn't much to fill it.
"Dumbledore used to love knitting," Harry said absentmindedly.
Ginny hadn't realized he was awake, he fell asleep on the sofa a few minutes after she began to knit. He was very tired during the day because the nightmares didn't allow him much sleep. Recently it was rare to find a day that he felt well enough to leave the house at all.
"Professor Dumbledore?" Ginny replied in surprise.
"Yeah, he told me once that he read Muggle magazines for the knitting patterns."
"I can't picture that, I wonder if he knitted those um.... colorful robes he always wore. I can't see him finding them at Madam Malkins."
Harry snorted with laughter. "Where do you think he got the pointed hats?"
"Never seen another wizard wear those things. I wonder if he dressed like that when he was younger?"
Harry went quiet, she must've said something wrong but she couldn't figure out what. She was distracted by a tawny owl flying gracefully towards her with a letter.
It read:
Ginny,
I'm sorry to have to bother you with this at this time but things have gotten out of hand, in order to do my job as Headmistress correctly, it is imperative to speak to you as soon as possible. James's behavior has been unacceptable since returning to Hogwarts, I have had numerous complaints, even from Professor Haywood who understands your situation. I hope in talking to you we can find a way to help him as well as making sure this does not happen again.
Sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall.
Ginny was shocked, James was always a bit of a troublemaker but the way Minerva described it he seemed to be acting out because he was upset or angry, probably both. Having gone through plenty of bad experiences and seeing Harry go through more, she knew what it could do, her son had just lost his granny who was as close as a parent would be, he had been tortured and almost abducted at the start of the summer, and he was watching his dad slowly die. Of course he would have some kind of reaction to all of this, Ginny remembered James's father's angry outbursts in his 5th year after the Triwizard Tournament and she hoped that James didn't have the same short temper.
Kreacher entered carrying a tray of potions for Harry and mugs of hot chocolate for both of them.
"Master Harry, Kreacher brewed some potions, this one is for the pain and this is to give Master some energy so he can go and..."
