AUTHORS NOTE: I haven't proofread this bc i can't be bothered but i did decide to change how this chapter ends, there's probably gonna be 3 or so more chapters until the end of the school year in the story, that is nowhere near the end of the story though. Basically got most of what happens planned out but idk how long it will take to write and finish 😂
Update: It's January, the anniversary of the date i started this fanfic and I am approximately 3 chapters from the end.Lily walked into the Great Hall in a rush, she'd woken up very early to finish her Charms homework which was due first thing, it was pretty easy but she'd left it too late. By the time she sat down for breakfast, most of her friends were already there. The owls were just beginning to arrive as she poured her pumpkin juice, she scanned the ceiling for any that she recognized but there was no post today. A boy in James's class who was sitting across from her, paid a Daily Prophet owl, maybe after her toast she would scan the paper for any important news, real or fake, there was usually something about someone she knew. It was going to be a pretty uneventful Tuesday, Charms first and then Herbology before break. It was quite sunny so she thought maybe her and Hugo would visit Hagrid at break because they were pretty close in Greenhouse 3. She noticed something strange about the juice she had just poured, it had the slightest pink or reddish tint to it more than usual, not as orange. She compared it to the jug which was still luckily pretty full, people were too absorbed in their owl post to make a start on breakfast. The jug looked abnormally bright orange compared to the pinkish tinted juice in her glass. Against her better judgement she sniffed it. It smelled perfectly normal and her worries started to fade away, what was she even thinking to begin with? She snapped up, coming to her senses, Lily realized she had been falling asleep. She glanced to her left as James lifted his glass and she slapped his hand away from his mouth, he gave her a quizzical look.
"Don't drink that, I'll be right back, pass the message on."
She slipped out of her seat and looked towards the Slytherin table where luckily Albus had noticed her stand up. She motioned to him to set his glass on the table and walked quickly towards the teachers, trying not to attract too much attention, although she knew she was Harry Potter's daughter, everyone at Hogwarts liked to watch her every movement.
To her relief the Headmistress had arrived but she was in conversation with Professor Longbottom. No time to be shy she was ready to interrupt them but luckily McGonagall looked over as she saw the small second year approaching. The Headmistress stayed serious as Lily explained, and she was grateful for that, even if her theory may be far fetched. She took the glass from Lily and rapped it with her wand. Lines creased the teacher's face and her expression was stern."Attention students. You will all leave the hall immediately for your common rooms. Morning classes are suspended and your Heads of Houses will follow you shortly. Professor Creevey will stand in for Gryffindor. Could James, Albus and Lily Potter remain in the hall."
Lily overheard McGonagall's whisper to Professor Longbottom, "Neville, I need you to alert Harry and Ginny at once that someone has attempted to poison their daughter and that all three children are now safely away from harm."
Neville's eyes widened with shock as he quickly walked out of the Great Hall, glancing back at Lily. McGonagall called her over. "Lily, I am incredibly proud of you, you've shown wisdom and maturity far beyond what is expected of a thirteen year old and you were able to trust your instincts, which, like your father, you are able to pick up on important things to protect yourself and others. I also commend you for coming to me straight away, rather than taking matters into your own hands, your parents have obviously taught you well and they will be very proud of you too."

Neville arrived at the Daily Prophet and practically sprinted towards their sports offices. He met a secretary at a desk, strangely no one had stopped him at the front entrance, he'd made it all the way up to the sports floor. He hated to be the one to tell Ginny and Harry what happened, he knew that neither of them would take it well, they were both very protective parents. Harry had never lost what some would call his "saving people thing" and Neville knew that he would feel guilty for not preventing it himself, even though no harm was done. The person who attempted to kill Harry and Ginny's daughter hadn't been found yet and Neville thought that the parents would not rest until they were caught.
