"This is our princess cut diamond ring with fine silver. Perfect for any girl with a love of jewellery," the clerk said.

"That's not it," I looked around at the selection of rings, "None of these rings are right."

I was about to give up and walk out of the store.

"Waitwaitwait!" The clerk shouted, "I haven't shown you our best ring yet. This is our one of a kind, embedded diamond ring."

He showed me an awkward looking ring with a large diamond on top. The silver hand dozens of tiny diamonds inside. It looked heavy, and just uncomfortable to wear.

"No thank you," I left the store and went to another.

Every store I seemed to go to was crap. I gave up and bought myself a pretze. The perfect ring was right in front of me.

"I'm home," I had gone shopping for the last time this month. All of it was microwave food since the pans were packed away.

"Baby blue~" Rouge hugged me, "I missed you."

"I was only gone for an hour," I moved my arm since it was in a weird position.

"Still, I missed you. Are you still sore from Shadow?" She asked.

"A little. It's gotten better these past few days," I handed her the parfait she wanted.

"I wish I had gotten you first," She rubbed me ear and pulled me onto the couch with her.

"I'm sorry... but-"

"I know," she sighed and held me close, "You fell for him. Not me."

"It's weird. Having everything in boxes again. I hope you guys can visit one day," I squeezed her hand.

"Contact with you has been forbidden during the mission. I can't even send a text to say hello," Rouge handed me something. A stick of her favorite lipstick, "To remember me by."

"Rouge, that's what pictures are for," I laughed.

"Then, say cheese," she turned her phone into a camera with both of us in the shot.

"Cheese," I smiled and she took the picture.

"Give me another shot to make you love me when I get back," she kissed my ear.

"I'll let fate decide who I love," I answered.

Shadow came home not long after. I made microwave pasta which we all ate off paper plates with plastic forks. Soon we it was bed time again. I had started sleeping with Shadow in his room. It was comforting to be in his arms at night. His mattress was just on the ground, but it as still nice to have him holding me.

The house became more and more empty as G.U.N agents moved out boxes every day. Soon, the only box left was mine. One box in my room of items that were special to me. It was taken out and my room laid bare and empty. We had sleeping bags for our last night here.

"Sonic," Shadow took my hand, "I need to ask you something."

"Anything," I looked back at him.

"I want to know that you're going to be waiting for me while I'm gone, because I'm not going to want anyone but you these next two years," Shadow kissed my neck and brought his hand around me, "I love you. I couldn't see it before, but everyday you were making me fall for you. I wish we had met when I was renting an apartment, so G.U.N couldn't have pulled us apart. And so Rouge wouldn't molest you. But you gave more than I ever dreamed of."

I started crying. Nothing was said, but the ring he was holding up to me told me everything. I held out my hand and he slipped it onto my ring finger.

"Shadow..." I was crying so much I could hardly speak.

"I love you," he hugged me tight and kissed me.

The most georgous ring on my finger. A moonstone engagement ring.

"I love you most," I cried as we hugged. I couldn't let go I didn't want to.

I never wanted to let him go.

The three stood at the door of their empty house. Shadow handed Sonic a cupcake with a candle on it.

"I wish we have celebrated it properly," Shadow kissed his finance and handed him a gift.

"When you come back in two years, you can make up for it," Sonic replied, trying to smile through the pain as Shadow requested.

"I'll miss you baby blue," Rouge hugged me tight.

"I'll miss you guys," Sonic fought the tears as best he could.

"Come on, time to go," a guard separated them gently. He didn't want to ruin the moment completely, but they would be late for the plane.

Sonic let them go with the best smile he could give them. Each trying to stay strong enough to keep going. Once out of view, Sonic broke down in a waterfall of tears. He held the gift close to his chest. Rouge began crying in the car to the air port. Shadow refused to let himself cry. Though he longed for Sonic, he didn't break until they reached the apartment he would stay in for the next two years.

To all of them, this was agony and hell.
