"Please you have to let him know," Sonic begged Commander Tower, "This is extremely important. Don't you think he should know?"

"Sonic we can't have him worrying about anything else. His focus is the mission, nothing else. We can offer you anything in exchanged for your current situation," Tower said, "If you need more money to support yourself we can offer more-"

"Is money the only answer you have?" Sonic cried, "Can't you understand? I need my boyfriend back home with me."

"Please calm down," Tower handed the weeping hedgehog a box of tissues, "Don't stress yourself, especially in this state."

"I need him home..." Sonic cried.

"There's only a year and a few month left. Look, I'll have a baby higher for you so you don't need to worry about help around the house," Towered stated.

"I'll be going, now... Since you clearly do know what it's like to have you're heart broken," Sonic walked out of the HQ. His walk slow, but he got where he needed to go.

"It's almost Christmas," Shadow said as he looked at the date.

  Sonic had snow around him, while Shadow was still in the sun. They were in opposite hemispheres. Far apart, they couldn't even look up at the same sky together.

Shadow had been promoted to boss of transfers. Rouge had become the real bosses crush as she planned. Their mission viewed only in success by G.U.N.

  Sonic returned to his cold house alone. He walked up the steps and turned on the heater. He took a warm shower and opened his fridge. His diet on a temporary change. No deli meats, no aged cheese, no alcohol other than wine to make spaghetti, and he had little gummie vitamins he took every day. He stop taking them in April.

  He stood in the doorway of his spare room. Hoping to use it when Rouge came over it was changed. Sonic rubbed his stomach as he gazed into the room.

"Come home soon Shadow. I have something important to tell you," Sonic said, "I hope you love it as much as I do."
                                                                        
                                                                        
--- Christmas Day ---

"Lets celebrate next Christmas together."

  The memory of Rouge saying those words passed through all three of their minds.

  Rouge and Shadow were invited to a huge Christmas party. Both used the excuse to drink and mope as the missed their azure roommate. They wound up stubling home to Rouge's apartment. Bri got no closer to getting Shadow. Even drunk he was still faithful to his fiance.

  Sonic spent Christmas with the workers he hired for his bakery. The small group of bakers enjoyed cookies and cake. After the party Sonic was alone with the gifts he had been given by customers, neighbors, friends, and co-workers. He had a framed picture of him, Shadow, and Rouge.

"Merry Christmas you two," Sonic placed an ornimate on the frame for decoration, "Maybe I'll see you next Christmas. I sure hope so."
                                                                        
                                                                        
--- January ---

  Shadow had been promoted once more. He was getting closer to the boss, then the promotions stopped. There was simply stability for the next three months. Neither shadow or Rouge were improving, that began delaying the mission.

  It started as a one month delay, then two months. By April, it seemed it would take another year to finish the mission.

  And in April, Sonic didn't work in his bakery as often. He worked less and less, until he couldn't at all. It was a hospital trip, it lasted six hours and two nights. Then Sonic was back home where he stayed for two months. G.U.N sent the Nanny to assist him as promised and Sonic returned to work once his life was stable.

  It was a moment Shadow missed, I moment Sonic wanted him there for.
