It's a date?

Emilie looked at her son, who was smiling widely at Marinette, until he noticed her standing there.

Emilie gulped, not sure to step forward and give them the cookies, or just leave.

"Oh Mrs. Agreste, you brought cookies?" Marinette walked up to her. "It just so happens cookies are my favourites."

Emilie nervously laughed. "Yes, I knew that, and that's why I brought them here. So, anyway, what's this about a date?"

Both Adrien and Marinette blushed.

"We... We were just joking around," Adrien muttered. Why was he so embarrassed?

"Really?" Marinette laughed. "Because I was serious!"

Emilie gulped again, getting nervous each minute. "Uh, well, may I have a talk with my son?"

"Of course," Marinette backed away after taking a cookie.

"Privately," Emilie added. Marinette nodded again and left the room.

"What's wrong mom?"

"What do you mean?" Emilie placed the tray of cookies down on a table.

"I mean," Adrien looked down. "You seem to not like Marinette very well."

"What?! Nonsense, that's nonsense," Emilie chuckled. "Why would you ever think that?"

"Well, I mean, you seem pretty... I don't know, nervous?" Adrien looked up at her.

Emilie sighed. "That doesn't mean I hate her." She placed a hand in his shoulder. "Adrien, I just think you're not ready to start dating."

"What, why?"

"Well, you've been homeschooled for so long, and then you go to real school and meet this girl," Emilie exclaimed. "You and Marinette are moving way too fast. You met not so many days ago."

Adruen didn't really think of it like that. "Well, I like her. And it seems like she likes me too. I just can't help it."

"Adrien, stop it!" Emilie removed her hand from his shoulder and folded her arms. "I think you and Marinette need to be just friends. What if you start dating and be in a relationship, and everything goes wrong?"

Adrien sighed, looking down and turn back up to face his mother. "I understand."

"Good," Emilie nodded. "I'm glad you understand." She did good. Adrien wouldn't be chasing Marinette now and would probably be so nervous about making things right, that hell start to ignore her.

She opened the door and started leaving the room.

Adrien sat down on his bed as Marinette walked back inside.

"What was that all about?" She asked. Emilie had raised her voice and she was able to hear the word relationship. "Does your mom think we're in a relationship?"

"What, no!" Adrien nervously laughed as his hands trembled. Marinette was probably uncomfortable around him because he loved things way too fast, like his mother had said.

"Well, are you okay?" She took his hands. "You're shaking."

"N-n-no, I'm n-not!" He urged as his words came out in stutters, not like he wanted them to. He wanted his voice to be bold and act less nervous around her, but she had gotten closer, so that was practically impossible.

Marinette let go of his hands and took another cookie. "So when's the date?"

Adrien looked down, avoiding eye contact. "I-I don't think we should go."

Marinette looked at him with a frown. "Why?"

"Maybe we should just stay as friends," His mother's words rung through his ears again, stinging, knowing that her words were true.

Marinette took a bunch of cookies and stuffed them in her mouth. "Ish dis ahout wha you mum say (is this about what your mom said)?"

Adrien nodded, understanding her. "She said maybe we were moving too fast."

Marinette stared at Adrien for a while, then headed for the door. "That's too had. I was really looking for that date."

"Have I lost a chance?" He blurted, standing up.

Marinette chuckled. "No, no. Come to me when you're ready. I'll wait."

Adrien nodded and watched as she left the room. Then after the front door closed, he suddenly regretted something.

I should have asked for her phone number!
