The most average girl at school

Why are average girls in stories all either extremely nice, have a weird personality trait, look pretty when they take off their glasses and have abusive parents. Imagine Cinderella starting her story by saying I'm just an average girl who has not biological relatives and my only family uses me as a slave. Does that mean every girl is like that?? She's just an average girl after all
