Aj ran through the trees, blundering through the evening light, racing against time to get to the school. as he reached the gates, he called out to louis who was standing on the guard tower with a worried expression.
"louis! help!" he yelled, grabbing the attention of the lovable dreadhead "Aj! wheres clem!" he yelled back, panicking about his lovers absence "no time to explain! come on!" he raced down the guard tower and followed him to the barn, where inside lay clementine, without her leg. she had been bitten after her and louis had been separated, and had dragged herself all the way there. as soon as he saw her, he gasped and scooped her into his strong arms
"l-louis?" said clem, with a tired and weak voice. it alarmed him because clems voice was bold and confident, this was weak and whispy. "rest, baby. il get you home." clem fluttered her eyes closed. even in this state, to him, she still looked stunning, as the sun shone off her face.
as he ran back, he pondered what happened. if clementine was bitten, how would they survive? he realised just how much everyone in ericsons truly relied on clementine, and how little he did to help support that weight that she must be carrying. h
he resolved in his mind that if clem survived, he would work extra hard to help her run the school, instead of just slacking off and playing the piano all day. his sprint slowed to a run as the school he had spent so much of his life in came into view. Aj ran ahead to get ruby, while louis ran into the dorms, placing her on his bed. her eyes opened again." am I dead? am I a walker?" he would have laughed if not for the situation. so instead he just said "no, clem. Aj cut your leg off to save your life. ruby is on her way no-"
right as he said that ruby and Aj burst into the room with various medical supplies. she instantly sat on the bed and began working to prevent infections and clean the wound. the redhead shoved him lut of the way to get better access, so he instead knelt next to clementines face, rubbing his hand gently on his check as she squeezed her eyes shut from the stinging of the antiseptic. "its gonna be ok beautiful. you will pull through..." he almost cried at his own words. he gently dipped down, pressing his lips to her forehead. he lingered the kiss, not wanting to stop touching her for what could possible be the last time.
*a few days later*
louis P.O.V
I looked down sadly as everyone else laughed around me. I just wanted to hold clem again, feel her touch against my skin, her lips against mine. I just wanted my darling clementine back. I heard a sort of tapping behind me, but I was too sad to react to it. "hey lou." came a voice behind me. I snapped up, almost afraid to turn around. but when I did, I was met with a beautiful sight. clementine was stood there, a bandage around the lower part of her leg bandaged, using crutches to hold herself upright. I ran over, picked her up by the waist and swung her round in the air, crying with joy.
"louisss!" she squealed, not expecting my reaction. I placed her down and wrapped my arms around her small frame. she wrapped her arms back around mine, melting in my touch like putty. I breathed her coconut scent and instantly my senses were overwhelmed with joy. I pulled away, but instantly she pulled me back in and latched her lips to mine. everything in the world suddenly felt right again as we shared a sweet, but unfortunately brief, kiss. as we pulled away, I started laughing, the same way I always do when we kiss. its a habit of mine, laughing when I feel unexplainable happiness.
"a-are you ok? are you in pain? do you need any help with anything?" I nervously rambled, suddenly remembering the vow I hade made those days ago. "no lou. Im perfect." she said, smiling up at me. "I cant say I don't agree" I grinned, reverting back to my usual, flirtatious self. she laughed before pecking my lips, grabbing my hand, and leading me to the others. she was bombarded with loads of questions, and I got protective and hissed at everyone to stop and give her space. she was looking visible uncomfortable with the sudden attention. AJ ran over and pulled her into a hug, wrapping his arms over her hips.
*time skip to a year later*
I grinned at my creation, ready to give clementine her gift. Christmas was nearing, and I had the perfect idea for my beautiful girlfriends gift. i had been working since the summer on this, carving wood and building a pole out of some scrap metal, even going as far as to scavenge some sandpaper and varnish from the basement to smoothen and waterproof it to create... a leg for Clem. I wanted to build her something so she could move around easier. she was best with a bow, but couldn't use one properly because she had to hold her crutches.
general P.O.V
it was now Christmas, and he had her gift in an old box. he couldn't wait for her to open it. they sat around a campfire, bowls of stew in their cold hands, exchanging gifts and laughing. he nervously handed his gifts to everyone, saving Clementines for last. I noticed that she had a smaller package in her hands, all others she had handed around. the only person who hadn't received a gift from her, was him. she moved to sit next to him, and he shuffled over to give her space. she handed the final gift to him, shyly smiling. he kissed her cheek in gratitude as he opened the newspaper wrapping. it was a small Jewlery box, that almost looked brand new. he was astounded. he gently opened it to reveal I single saber tooth on a chain, and he gasped.
"w-where did you find this?" he inquired, absolutely in love with his gift. he instantly placed the chain around his neck, clipping it closed. he looked down, touching the smooth coldness of it. "I was scavenging for stuff with Aasim over a year ago and found it, but only just found a chain which is why I didn't give it to you before. i'm sorry if its no-" he cut her off pressing his lips to hers. she placed a gentle hand on his cheek as he wove his fingers through her hair. he pulled away and smiled "I love it Clem. thanks you" she smiled as he handed her his gift. he noticed his heart start to thud as she unwrapped it, revealing the box. she daintly opened it and gasped. "uh!" he huffed, winded as she threw herself on top of his, crying and hugging him tightly.
a chorus of ' what is it's came around as Omar picked up the box, pulling out the contraption.
"guys... he built her a new leg..." gasps went around the area and she pulled away, still crying. "what's that?" AJ inquired.
"that's Clems new leg little dude." he grinned at him, he too gasped as Clem took it gently from Omars hands. louis had even built it so the knee joint would bend when she changed a setting on it, so she could even sprint in it. she slipped it over her leg and did up the suspender type things that went over her shoulders to stop it from slipping off. it fit her perfectly. she hugged him again and gingerly stood up, with his assistance. she took a shaky step forward, and the another. she cheered as she started to walk a little more normally. everyone cheered and celebrated around us as Clem walked normally.
