I sat up, unsure of what I just saw. Just focus on it. It'll be easier.
I saw Dante sitting next to a bed, an unconscious me next to it. I got closer and could hear him mumbling to himself. "Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you, happy birthday, dear (Y/N), happy birthday to you." He sighed and then continued. "I know it's supposed to be your birthday wish, but mine for you is that you come back. Even if it's been five years, I still want you." I stood behind the chair he was in, wanting to reach out and tell him I was there, right there, but he started to sob on my arm and began talking to me. "Garroth and Laurance are together, they adopted a little boy, um.. Aaron and Aphmau are getting married soon, so are Zane and KC.. I just want you to come back. I'll be waiting. Please." He continued to cry silently and it was absolutely heartbreaking to see him that upset.
"D-Dante, I'm right here, I'm right behind you; I want to come back to you too, I'm coming back soon, I promise." I yelled into the air, and he perked up a little when the unconscious me's fingers wiggled. He got confused so I put my hand on his back, his cries turning into smaller hiccups.
"(Y/N), please, if you can hear me, just grab my hand. It may be hard, but show me something to prove to me and the dumb doctors you're still here." I put my hand in alignment with the other one of mine, where Dante's hand lay under it, and squeezed, watching the other hand move with mine. He began excitedly, and quietly, calling for a nurse, telling me to keep gripping his hand. I gripped harder, but I was starting to fall away. A nurse came in and Dante held his hand up with no grip on me, but my hand stayed in the air, I began reaching for him and the copy of me did the same. The nurse called for a doctor, but I couldn't stay. I stayed until the doctor came, but then my arm fell, sending me spiraling to my captors.
What, was, that? Am I really in a coma? I need to go back there. Was all I could think for the rest of the day. One of my captors shouted from upstairs, something about someone wanting to see me. I guess they saw me through the small window. They're probably from around here and want to introduce themselves. I carefully went upstairs, putting my carefully practiced smile on my face as I came into view. I brushed my hands on my skirt and stuck one out, shock overcoming me; I quickly recovered, smiling again after a second and stuck my hand out again. "Hello, who are you?" I asked, even though I knew. He had finally come for me like I'd imagined. I nodded a nod only perceptible to him, giving him the hint it was me. "Um..." I laughed as I caught his attention. "My name's (Y/N). Can I help you?" He shook his head and finally took hold of my hand, smiling.
"I'm Dante. Hey," He turned to the captor that had called me upstairs. "Would it be possible that I could take this lovely lady on a walk? Don't worry, I won't do anything, I'll protect her, and bring her back before any time that you would like." My captor nodded and told him I had to be back by midnight. I smiled wide and hugged my captor out of excitement. I called out a thank you as I left with Dante. We get a whole seven hours together...
After we got to the wheat fields in a comfortable silence, hand in hand, I pulled him towards me, looping my arms around his neck to give him a hug. "This isn't a dream, right? You're still here?" I asked after a while, sitting on one of the covered picnic benches that was meant for workers to sit on for lunch during the day. Lucky us, it was late in the day and the farmers were long gone from the fields. He nodded into my neck, squeezing me tighter as if to promise he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. "I love you, you know that right? Even if you're a dork, you're my cake baking, caring, special dork." I told him as I pulled out of the hug, looking him in the eyes, his brimming with tears as the salty liquid poured from mine, leaning into the touch as he wiped my cheeks.
We were enjoying each others presence two hours into our time, watching the sunset fall away and as the stars had begun to come out, I sat up and tapped his shoulder, wanting to ask two questions that had been eating at me. "How long have you been looking for me, and what are we?" He sat up and shrugged, grabbing my hand on the way up.
"(Y/N), I have been looking for you the moment I noticed that you were not at school." He pulled me close, and I could feel his breath fanning on my lips. "And, to answer your second question," He paused and I noticed the blush across his face. "I hope we can be something like this." He kissed me, it was a small, innocent kiss, but it was enough to communicate what he could not describe. I smiled, I whispered something, and then I don't remember much about what happened other than we made up for the years we were apart in kisses and whispers for a half hour, my heart racing as it tried to calm down along with my breathing.
We wandered through the fields, and I grabbed his hand, sinking into the warmth of his hand as I asked questions. What place is this, where did he live, who his lord was, and many more questions. The answers I got were, Scaleswind, Phoenix Drop, Aphmau, and answers to my other questions. "Take me with you." I blurted, biting my tongue for my idiocy moments after. Dante was shocked, to say the least, and it was expected; a girl who has been captured asked to escape with you, when one of her captors knows who you are. Sounds pretty idiotic, but it's Dante. He nodded and grabbed my hand, finally focusing on how far they were, before he took me to the stables to his horse, paid the stable hand and helped me on, the memory from Guard School five years ago flooding my chest with joy, and fatigue.
