Boss

"V, you didn't go see Boss as promised," scolds Hope with a scowl on his face.

Agent V scowls back.

"I don't wanna see him," he says smoothly, making his superior's brows rise, "Can't he schedule it another time? We're all busy."

"Clearly you're not. Seeing as you're here and not out there tailing your target, maybe we should give the job to someone else?"

Hope knew he trigerred a nerve, since V's lax figure instantly went rigid, and his eyes burned hard and wild.

"I told you I can handle it," he drags out through clenched teeth.

"That's not what you told me the last time we were face-to-face," singsongs the older, obviously enjoying this torturous game.

V bites his lips hard, contemplating.

Finally coming to a decision, he mutters out a curse and stands from his chair, glaring at Hope and walking away.

Before he could reach the elevator, the metallic doors open to reveal Byun Baekhyun, all bloody and tired, yet still smiling triumphantly like he just accomplished a mission.

Which was probably the case.

All the others smile in delight, especially Hope, who approaches him to give a bro fist.

"Success?"

Agent Baek shrugs, though it was coy, and confirms "Yes sir. Dead as a doorknob. I even have the corpse. Wanna see?"

"We should burn it," suggests one of the females.

If this happened way, way back, Agent V would be celebrating and smiling at his friend's job well done.

After all, Baekhyun was one of the best here too, specializing in torture and long relationships with people such as the mafia.

His latest target was probably a high-ranking money-grubber, doing illegal business secretly.

But this time, his blank face was on, and he merely brushed past his friend after giving a silent pat on the shoulder.

He disappeared inside the elevator, the others looking at each other.

Agent Baek locks eyes with Hope.

"What happened to V?"

Hope rolled his eyes. "He's getting close to his target, that's why he can't kill him."

Baekhyun gasps.

"That's horrible!" he exclaims, "Should I help him?"

"We'll see. For now, clean up and bury the corpse somewhere. You smell like blood."

Baekhyun's angelic features twist into that of the devil's.

"He put up a rough fight, Hope," he says nonchalantly, "I had to slit his neck for him to shut up."

The elevators go up and up, V not knowing when this journey will end.

Come on, he's never seen the face.

And just because he's feeling a little rusty, he has to go meet the Boss personally?

V figures he doesn't even know him.

After all, who knows what the guy does in his spare time?

The elevators shake a bit, then stop.

It opens after a few seconds, and V steps out in a large spacious room, though it was dark so he really couldn't see anything.

"Hello?"

"Good day, Agent V," comes a smooth deep voice, deeper than his own.

Taehyung doesn't know, but something about the voice demands superiority and respect, so he immediately bows ninety degrees, eyes wide with apprehension. He swears, he can actually feel sweat rolling down his temples at just the sheer thought of any punishment.

True, prior to all this, Taehyung was all calm and chill but now that he was really experiencing it, he needed to obey and listen to whatever the unknown man had to say.

"Please, sit down," came the voice again, and V automatically followed.

"What would you like to discuss with me sir?"

Thank the heavens he didn't stutter. He was able to keep his composure and talk smoothly.

He saw the silhoutte, but he couldn't get a glimpse of the face.

It was tall and broad, everything shrouded in darkness. His voice was the only thing that seemed real, and he doubted if it was even his real one.

How would he know if the Boss was lying or not?

"A very distubing matter has been reported to me, and I worry that the connection you and your target share would be a problem."

Taehyung inwardly rolls his eyes.

Yes, he knows that it's somewhat a serious matter so what else does the guy have to say?

Of course he's not gonna be brash; any wrong move might send him to hell.

"Tell me if this job is bothering you, then I will generously offer it to more willing agents, such as Agent Baek, who I've heard came back with the corpse." He hums in appreciation, and Taehyung tries his hardest not to crumple his face in disgust.

What should he say?

"As much as I appreciate your concern," he begins, "I will be fine accomplishing it on my own sir."

A laugh rings through the walls, chills running down the young agent's spine.

"Then I shall expect him dead by your hands," he says, expectation clear, "But if not, I will not hesitate to kill him either by other agents, or by my hands."

The warning was clear, yet Taehyung still didn't have the heart to tell him that he will never in a million years destroy or kill the person that showed him how to love and how to care.

These were just one of the many lies he has told in his life.

Without another word, he leaves, resolve never fading, only strengthening even more.
