I looked at Shane in shock. "Zachary? Th-the baby? Is dead?" I started to tremble. I got off of Rick and we put our clothes back on. "Shane, how did this happen?" I asked holding back the tears. "I'm not sure darlin'. Glenn said when they woke up this morning, they went to his crib and he was a walker. He didn't have no bites or scratches on him so they think he died in his sleep." I started to cry. I have to go see Maggie.
I ran out of the house. I didn't care that it was pouring rain outside. I got to Maggie's house and knocked on the door. Maggie answered it with tears streaming down her face. "Maggie" I cried. "I heard about Zachary. I'm so sorry." I said through my tears. She pulled me in the house and I hugged her. "It's not even just the baby. He scratched Glenn." She cried. My eyes widened. I didn't know what to say. "Maggie, I -" "I already lost one person I love, now I'm gonna lose the other one." She started hyperventilating and I sat her on the couch trying to calm her down. I knew there were no words for me to say to make her feel better about any of this. "Promise me you won't tell anyone about Glenn. Not yet. I don't want anyone to kill him because they think he's a threat." She looked at me. I knew she was right but I wasn't sure if I could keep a secret like this from Rick.
"Please Sara. I'm begging you. I need you to keep this between us for now." Her eyes pleaded with mine to keep this secret. "Alright Maggie. I won't tell anyone. But you need to keep me updated on how Glenn is doing." I made her agree to my conditions and got up to leave her house. As I walked to the door, Glenn came down the stairs. "Wait Sara." He said as he began to roll up his sleeve. "Will you help me real quick before you go? I would ask Maggie but she won't be able to control herself." He showed me his scratch and it didn't look too bad, but it was deep for being scratched by a baby.
He led me into the bathroom and opened a medicine cabinet. He pulled out a bunch of different things; peroxide, rubbing alcohol, neosporin, gauze pads, and bandages. "Okay, what I want you to do is put the alcohol on first, then the peroxide, then neosporin, then the gauze and bandage." He held up the rubbing alcohol. I grabbed it out of his hand and started to open it as he put his arm over the sink. "This is gonna hurt like hell" I said as I held his arm and got ready to pour.
It started to spill the alcohol out onto his arm and he winced in pain. "I'm sorry!" I said, feeling bad that I was hurting him. "It's okay. This needs to happen." He managed to get out. I quickly began to pour the peroxide on his arm and it started bubbling like crazy. There must be so many germs in there. I poured more peroxide into the cut and put a ton of neosporin on it and covered it with gauze and wrapped the bandage around his arm. I looked at Glenn with unsure eyes. I really hope this works.
