20. Comin' 'Round the Mountain

Derek's POV:

"I love you Derek." I stop in my tracks. I look at her and smile. "I love you too, Penelope." She smiles back and buries her face in my chest. Did she really just say that? Was she pretending? I don't think so. Wow. I continue walking out the building. We finally get out and it's in the middle of nowhere.

"Great." I say. I put Penelope down and put my arm around her to keep her close and feel her curves. I pretend to not notice her blushing. I check for my phone. "He took my phone. Do you have yours?" She takes her phone out her bra,"That's one place to keep it." "The safest place to keep it." We laugh and she says,"It's working, but I only have 17 percent."

I sigh and say,"Well, let's start walking." "Do we have too?" "If you you wanna save your pretty little self, then yes!" "Ok. Carry me?" "Only because I love you." I kiss her cheek and lift her up. "I could get used to this." "Don't!" We laugh and start walking.

"Try calling someone." "I'll call JJ." She dials JJ's number and doesn't say anything for a few seconds. "No reception." "Damn it." "What now." "I don't know. What do you wanna talk about?" "I broke up with Kevin." "Why?" "He was cheating on me. I feel like fool." She sounds upset.

"Your a beautiful fool. If that helps." I smile at her and she laughs,"It only helps because it's coming from you." "Good." She looks at me then looks away, looking down the road. It's silent for a few minutes. "Whatcha thinkin about?" "I don't know. Life, I guess." "Life?" "I dunno..."

She trails off. She lays her head on my chest and doses off. I can hear her lightly snoring and it puts a smile on my face. She's so cute when she sleeps. I wish I could sleep with her. I think about what Penelope said. Did she break up with him for me? No, don't be a jerkface Derek. I look down the dirt road and see a car on the horizon.

"Penelope." I whisper,"Baby girl wake up. A car's coming." "Huh?" She wakes up and rubs her eyes,"I'm gonna put you down ok?" I set her down gently and start waving frantically. The truck slows down and stops next to us. "What y'all doin' out here in the middle of nowhere huh?" He was and old farmer looking guy with a thick country drawl.

"We were kidnapped sir, and we have no vehicle. Will you help us get to town?" said Penelope. "Well sure thang you two! Hop in!" We walked around the front of the truck and got in. There was only one other seat, so Penelope has to sit on my lap. To keep her on me I wrap my arms around her stomach and put my chin on her shoulder. She slid her hands on mine and I smiled.

Penelope's POV:

The guy started driving. "So, what y'all do for a livin'?" "Uh..." I look at Derek and back at the guy. "We we-" "We're researchers and we got lost on the road last night and we were abducted." "Oh. Ok. So, y'all datin' er what?" I blushed really hard and Derek smiled at me and looked me in the eye,"No. Not yet, at least." I smiled back at him. It's quiet for the rest of the ride. We finally get to town and he drops us off at a gas station. We thank him and he drives off. "I think there's a pay phone over there. Wait here." says Derek.

He walks around the building and I wait for him to come back. A woman comes up to me and asks,"Excuse me! Do you know how to get here?" She shows me a map and I say,"No, I'm not from around here. Sorry." "It's ok. It's perfectly fine." she smiles at me and the tone in her voice gave me a suspicious feeling. I give her a nervous smile and she slaps me all of a sudden.

I hold my cheek and look at her,"What's your problem?!" I slap her back harder and we get into a fight. We fall to the ground and she's on top of me. I grab her wrists to try and stop the blows. She gets out of my grip and I'm starting to loose consciousness. She was a small brunette with green eyes. But, the last thing on my mind was Derek.
