"you think they like me, ro?" brisa whispered, her brunette hair scattered around the bed, and rowan's shoulder.
rowan furrowed her eyebrows, looking down at the small girl, "who, bris?" she whispered, smiling slightly at the girl before seeing her frown.
"my parents." brisa answered quietly, looking up at rowan, the frown heavy on her lips.
rowan blinked at her, brisa never opened up about her home life, or her insecurities. maybe it was just the fact that the girl was sleep deprived that made her begin to spill. "of course they do, bris, you're their daughter." rowan answered, kissing brisa's forehead.
brisa shook her head, "that doesn't matter- it doesn't seem like it. it's always gabbie. do you know how many plays they've missed?" brisa whispered, hiding in rowan's shoulder.
rowan sighed, looking down at her small girlfriend, "how many, baby?"
"six."
rowan's mouth opened slightly, "but you've only had-"
"six, yeah, i know. i know i've only had six. they only came to one last year, and that's because gabbie reminded mum!"
"well, gabbie remembered." rowan whispered, knowing she was wrong when brisa laughed bitterly.
"talyn reminded gabbie."
a silence fell over them, rowan biting her lip.
"they don't pay any attention to me, because it's always gabbie! any time that they spent paying attention to me is gone now. it's been devoted to paying attention to gabbie and that fucking boyfriend of hers, and i- i just want mum to look at me one day and ask how my day was..a-and for her to actually listen..and c a r e." brisa whispered, looking up at rowan.
"is that why you don't like grayson, baby? because he took your family time away?"
"gabbie chose grayson over me.." brisa whispered, "mum and dad chose her relationship over me. i'm never anyone's first choice, ro, and it hurts."
rowan sighed softly, shaking her head, "you're my first choice, baby."
"i don't think they even know my name." brisa whispered, ignoring rowan denying that that could possibly be the case.
brisa stayed silent after that, slowly falling asleep.
~
rowan blinked her eyes open at her alarm, shaking brisa awake, "baby, baby, wake up. we gotta get you home, alright?"
brisa shook her head, holding on to rowan, "'m sleepy, carry me?" she whispered, resting her head on rowan's chest.
rowan bit her lip, looking at the door and nodding, "alright, alright, i'll carry you." she whispered, leaning up and picking up brisa as she did so.
"m'kay." brisa murmured, hiding in rowan.
rowan walked brisa home silently, pushing the unlocked door open, brisa fast asleep in her arms.
phoenix and jack glanced up, before immediately looking back down to their phones.
rowan stared at them. she knew that brisa hadn't told her parents about staying over, and she felt like they should've shown a bit of concern. rowan rushed upstairs, setting brisa on the bed and kissing her forehead, "i'll be back in a minute, baby." she murmured.
brisa nodded gently, cuddling into her blankets.
rowan walked downstairs, staring at phoenix and jack. "are you two KIDDING me?" she laughed bitterly, staring at the two.
phoenix looked up, raising an eyebrow. "what?"
"ya know, when brisa said she thought you didn't like her, i thought she was exaggerating." rowan laughed, "but when she doesn't tell you she's staying over, and BOOM, i walk in with her nearly UNCONSCIOUS in my arms and you do NOTHING?"
phoenix stared at her, jack looking up.
"she thinks you don't even know her name, at this point!" rowan snapped, pointing at jack, "how many plays has she had this year?"
"she's still in theater?" jack questioned after a moment, staring up at rowan.
"UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE!" rowan yelled, throwing her hands up, "are you kidding me?! she's had SIX-GOD-DAMN PLAYS!"
phoenix glared at rowan, "i don't-"
"no, shut up! you don't get to yell at me for questioning your parenting when one of your daughters think that you don't remember her name!" she yelled, glaring at phoenix. "all she wants is for you to ask how her day was, and fucking..LISTEN!" rowan seethed, turning to walk upstairs, "you think you can handle that?"
phoenix said nothing, glaring at the future disney star.
"if you can, congrats. do it. be a good fucking parent to BOTH of your children instead of one." rowan huffed, walking upstairs and holding brisa to her.
