the original family had always mesmerized xina garrets. with the five (known) boys and two (known) girls, they seemed like the perfect family. despite being vampires. she had never met the cursed siblings, oh lord, why would she want to do that? no, she had just recently been turned into a vampire and just recently discovered the family. and oh, did she love the idea of them.
you had the eldest, anna, meeting a tragic demise at the young age of fifteen because of their fucked father.
the noblest son, jonah.
the wisest son, corbyn.
the innocent son, daniel.
the bastard son, jack.
the one who so desperately wanted to be normal, zach.
and the youngest, most protected, isla.
see, this family had always mesmerized phoenix, because while the others (minus isla, as she was permanently too young to have any type of boyfriend) had someone to fall back on, keep them sane, if you will...the bastard had no one.
the oldest, anna, was dead. therefore she had no one, and needed no one.
jonah? he had the werewolf, rylieen dillon.
corbyn? the human, who was actually a witch, but no one knew that until..well, a few months ago, mika sanders.
daniel? the vampire, rosaleene francis.
zach? everyone knows he had a thing with the little human girl, meadow wilson.
but jack? jack had no one. no one wanted to be his sanity, because he required work.
and let's just say..xina garrets had no problem working.
-
xina had resumed her normal human life after being turned, apart from having to drink blood now. she usually just drank enough to fill her, compelled the person to forget it, and sent them on their way.
that's besides the point, xina was a waitress before being turned, and she had resumed that job after acquiring a daylight ring from a very helpful witch friend. and, as you do when you have a job, she was working. serving guests who came to the diner..that was until a curly haired boy walked in with a much taller man, the taller man wearing a suit, his hands stuffed in the pockets.
xina nodded to them, smiling slightly, "have a seat right over there, i'll be right with you." she hummed, having no idea of their names or reputation.
she was fascinated with the original family, she wasn't a stalker. why would she find newspapers from...when? 1812? just to see pictures of them?
she wouldn't.
so, as she grabbed her notepad and walked over to the two, a fake smile adorning her lips..the curly hair boy watched her, and it clicked as she heard him say the others name. "jonah, i think it's quite a good thing that that dreadful house burned down."
and she paused, xina watched them, biting the inside of her cheek and walking over. "hi!" she smiled, it taking everything in her to not walk away very quickly. "i'm xina, and i'll be taking care of you today. can i get you anything to drink?"
the curly haired boy looked at her, his eyes shooting over to one of xina's co-workers. her best friend. "nothing for me, thank you."
xina's eyes darted to where he was looking, writing a swift, "not on the menu." on her notepad before looking at jonah. "and anything for you?"
jonah rolled his eyes at his brothers antics, "i'll just have a water please, thank you."
"alright, i'll be back with those as soon as i can." she smiled, flipping the paper and writing, "water." before ripping off the paper that read, "not on the menu." and placing it in front of the curly haired boy, walking off towards the kitchen.
the curly haired boy raised a brow, looking at jonah. "not on the menu?" he read, laughing slightly.
"i assume she knows who you were looking at, that raven haired girl."
"and she's not on the menu?" he hummed.
"it appears not."
xina walked back a few minutes later, placing the water in front of jonah, "are you sure you don't want anything to drink, sir?" she hummed, grabbing the paper she had previously given the curly haired boy.
"jack." he corrected, rolling his eyes at "sir" and shaking his head. "no, i'm fine." he hummed, his eyes darting to a human.
"alright." she hummed, glancing at the human. "i'll be back in about five minutes to ask what you'd like to eat," she smiled, walking over to the human.
she tapped the girl on the shoulder, the girl looking up.
xina stared into her eyes, whispering, "go home. stay there for the rest of the night." before walking off.
the girl nodded, getting up and walking out.
"there goes your meal, jack." jonah hummed, watching the girl walk out.
"that bitch." jack glared at the kitchen, getting up.
"jack-"
"she's interrupting my meal." he rolled his eyes, simply walking into the kitchen.
"jack, this is irrational."
but the younger brother wasn't listening.
"sir, you can't be back here." xina's brother sighed, glancing up.
"go home." jack commanded, pushing her brother out of the way.
her brother shook it off, walking home immediately.
"i've heard of you." xina murmured, looking up from another meal she was preparing.
"hasn't everyone?" he hummed, smiling sickly sweet.
"and i know you were going to kill her." she mumbled, picking up a plate.
"well how else was i going to get full?"
"you don't have to kill her." xina whispered, looking at jack. "you don't have to kill anyone."
she had barely any time to react before jack had put his hand to her throat, pushing her to the wall. "don't tell me how to eat."
"you shouldn't play with you food." xina gasped, "didn't your mother ever te-tell you that?"
jack rolled his eyes, this close to snapping her neck before jonah walked back.
"let the girl go, jack. we've got business to do and i don't need to be cleaning up your mess." he snapped, grabbing his brother. jonah looked at xina for a moment, "he's got a temper, i'd advise you don't test him."
oh, but test him she would. she wanted to see the boys limits, and see just how much it'd take for him to break.
that, perhaps, was xina's biggest flaw. her curiosity.
