Part 37

Natasha returned home, to her old room. She had taken the decision to leave when she had figured she had no choice left. But now she had to return. The court cannot do anything, if her husband was sick.

The case would be with held and hopefully terminated. She didn't want divorce, and Steve was not in a position to decide for now.

She lay down on the bed and closed her eyes, her baby was relaxed too. Maybe he wanted to return home as well.

"Everything will be okay, baby" she daid, caressing her belly, "I love you".

Steve returned home and Sam went to meet him.

"What are you doing? " he asked, "She will find out someday, what will you do then? "

"I had no other way to hold her back without forcing her. She already thinks I am controlling her, and that stupid case. We both know, no power on this world can separate us. But still she is concerned about the damn nonsense, and she keeps crying and now she decides to run away from me, while she is seven months pregnant with my child. I will not allow it. She is my wife, and she has to stay with me. That was our commitment from the first day".

"Steve, I.. Please try talking to her. I am sure she would understand " Sam said.

"That's the problem, Sam!!! She doesn't understand. I have tried time and again, but she thinks I am controlling her. She doesn't understand that Clark has no power over me. She believes the court can separate us on the basis of Clark's stupid claims. She doesn't want divorce, neither do I, then how can the court end our marriage. Now that she decided to run from her problems, I have decided to make her stay. By hook or by crook" Steve said.

"And what if she finds out? " Sam asked.

"Who would tell her? You? Because apart from you, no one knows. Let her deliver my baby and I'll tell her myself" Steve said.

Sam knew it wasn't any good to try and reason with him anymore so he left.

Steve was trying to sleep when he sensed the door to his room opening. He was sure his wife was watching out for him, and he had to pretend to not noticr her.

Soon, she was standing by his side  and brushing his hair with her gentle fingers. It took all of Steve's power to stay still and not respond to her gentleness.

She placed a soft kiss on his forehead and then walked out of the room, closing the door without making a noise.

"You will be free of this soon, my darling " Steve promised.

"What the hell were you thinking? " Maria was ranting as she met Natasha the next day. Natasha was trying to ignore her and focus on the strawberry ice cream she craved too much at that moment.

"Stop acting cute!! I know you are pregnant but its no excuse for what you did"

"What did I do? Try to break free of this prison? Try to decide for my ownself instead of two men who think they rule my existence? " Her voice was calm, not angry, ane she did not look up.

"Natasha! How many times do I have to tell you? We did it to protect you. Clark is out there making everyone believe how your marriage is nothing but an agreement. How its against the law. How you married him just for benefits and how this isn't a marriage but.. Disgusting" Maria made a face.

"He had nothing to prove that. Our marriage was normal on paper. We didn't sign any contract except verbal commitments, his accusations were void. But Steve overreacting over it all, fueled it" Natasha said, finally looking up after her ice cream ended, "I am not even sure if he is really sick or acting it all. With all his obsession to keep me with him, its very possible ".

"Where is he wrong in that? You are his wife, pregnant with his baby, seven months along. Which husband  wouldn't lose his cool if his wife decides to disappear in that condition? " Maria snapped.

"A husband who would start considering the feelings of his wife. Who would listen to her opinions and not care what a third person says or does. We were dragged to court because of Steve's reckless anger. Clark got to prove his point because of that" Natasha pulled a pillow in her lap and hugged it.

"Nat! He really loves you" Maria said sitting down beside her.

Natasha gave her a sarcastic smile, "Too bad he doesn't admit to it ".

There was a knock on the door.

"Come in" Natasha said. Steve appeared at the door and Maria stood up.

"I'll come in later" Maria said and walked out.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you" Steve said.

"If this is all an act, end it soon. Because I won't forgive you if I find out later. And I might actually go for.. " she said in anger, but before she could finish, his finger was on her lips.

"You won't " he said.

She laughed, "well, at least I know how to get you to tell the truth" Her eyes filled with tears.

"Natasha!! " he cupped her cheek. And she broke into her arms, crying her heart out.

"Steve, please stop doing this to us. " she cried.

"Shsh!! You are free, to do anything. I won't cage you or put any restrictions I promise. Just don't do this to me" he pat her hair gently.

"And what about Clark? " she asked, looking into his eyes with her teary ones.

"The court has rejected his pleas. Since he has no evidence of his claims. He would now be held responsible for trying to ruin a happy couple's marriage. " he told her.

"Really? " she asked wiping her tears.

"Yes, I just got the news. And I was coming to tell you about my lie. I'm sorry" he said.

"Its okay" she replied and hugged him again.

Steve was lying and Natasha easily caught him.
