The morning sunshine peaked through the small cave. The  sunshine showed bodies and skeletons around in the cave, blood staining the cave floor and showing stains of blood on the walls, not much but some. The sight of blood on the walls made Laura nervous. Had somebody else come into the cave? Were they the ones who's blood is on that wall?

Nobody had really gotten much sleep the night before. Every hour one person would keep watch and everybody else would sleep, then they would switch. It was quite a miserable night but what did they expect? The creature started to stir in his sleep. John , who sat to the nearest left, shook Sophia awake. It didn't take much, just a nudge. Sophia then woke Laura up, who sat next to her. Laura woke Mary Kay up next. The group all stood up slowly and quietly. They had made it almost all the way when Mary Kay slipped. She had cut her hand as she pushed herself up from the wall with her hands. It stung and blood started falliing down.

The creatures eyes sprung open. He heard a noise in his cave. The creature immediately stood on all four of his legs, looking to the back of the cave. He stood still. So still. As still as a mountain. Sophia and everybody else got their "weapons" ready. With all her might, strength and courage, Sophia charged at the animal, jumping onto his back. Just as Sophia landed on the creatures back spikes sprung out from his back, stabbing Sophia in more than one place. Sophia screamed in agony. The creature turned in circles, trying to throw Sophia off. Sophia lost her balance and hung from the side of the creature. Her leg was caught in one of the spikes, as the creature turned and jerked, the skin on her leg tore deeper and deeper. The three others started clubbing the monster. John went to the front of the creature, facing him face-to - face. JOhn hit the monetser hard on the face. He pointed the pointier end to the creatures face and stabbed him in the eye. The creature yelped.

Sophia had no other choice, if she wanted to live, she had to do what she had to do. Sophia sat up as much as possibly, she grabbed her leg and yanked it free. Screaming, she fell. Sophia lay on the ground in agony, blooding spilling from her leg. She rolled underneath the creature and started jabbing at his stomach. The creature ignored John and the others, who were jabbing at random places, and tried to claw at Sophia.

"He's found his next victim!" Sophia screamed. "Me!"
"What!" John yelled.
"He won't go for you! Once he has me dead, he will sprint away! I have to get away! He won't touch you guys!" Sophia exclaimed.

Laura and Mary Kay stopped, John still attacked the creature. The two girls started yanking at the creature, trying to pull him out. "John help!" Laura demanded. John ran over to where the girls were and helped them. They only moved the creature a few inches. While the girls continued to pull, John grabbed Sophia's ankles, slidding her out from underneath the creature.

"Take her. Now!" John held Sophia into her arms and gave her to Mary Kay. John helped position her on Mary Kay's back and Mary Kay ran out of the cave. The creature slapped Laura with his front paws and Laura flew two feet to the left. The creature fled from the cave, searching for Sophia. John helped Mary get up and searched for the other two girls as well.

Mary Kay and Sophia ran to the right of the cave, climbing a very tall tree. Sophia went first, then grabbed both of Sophia's arms and pulled her up. They climbed to the very top. The Creature ran straight out of the dense part of the forest, onto the main path of the forest. It bellowed out of frustration. John and Laura went running after the creature. Then Sophia yelled at them. The stopped and looked around in a full circle. "Hey up here!" Mary Kay shouted. John looked up and saw Sophia and Mary Kay in the tree. He checked to see if the creature was near, it wasn't so they both went to the tree.

"What do we do now?" Laura asked.
"This time....I don't know." Sophia sighed.
"Here, let me help you up." John gave LAura a boost into the tree.
"Well, we know that he is after me. He probably smelled a familiar scent on me. You know 'cause of my parents." Sophia commented.
"Yeah. So all we ave to do is protect you." john said.
"No. I can take care of myself. We need to kill this thing. You know that!" Sophia shouted.
"We should wait for this thing to come back, then we can go to the main path again." Mary Kay added.
"No. We need to stay here." Sophia quickly said.
"Well, then I am out. Laura got burned or something by some creepy lizard. Sophia got stabbed in who knows where. And I got cut!" Mary Kay yelled.
"That was your own falt." John laughed.
"What."
"You slipped, if you were more careful."
"Excuse me?"
"Look, you said you would come and look for this thing with me." Sophia looked hurt.
"I will NOT die for you."
"Then you should leave. Go home. You're useless anyways." Sophia got teary eyed.

Laura helped John up into the tree, they sat on the nearest tree branch to the bottom. The group sat in the tree until the creature came back. They even fell asleep for a little while. When the creature came back, he had a teenager in his mouth. Sophia shook her head. It was so wrong on so many levels. The creature went into it's cave and the sound of bones cracking filled the groups ears. They all winced. "Well, time to go." Mary Kay said while satrting to climb down the tree, she slipped and dangled off the third lowest branch.

"Hey, help me out!" Mary Kay shouted.

"You're being too loud." Sophia said.

"Can you just help me." Mary Kay demanded.

"No."

"What is WRONG with you."

"If you won't help me, I won't help you." John, who sat on the nearest branch to the bottom, stood up and helped Mary Kay to his branch. "Thanks." Mary Kay said rolling her eyes.

"Don't mention it."

"No really."

"Don't."

Mary Kay jumped down from the branch, pain rushed through her leg. She looked at the group and tightened her backpack around her shoulders. She nodded at them and walked away. The group watched her leave deeper into the forest, or not deeper? She walked all the way to the main path, not even looking back at her "friends."

The group stayed in the tree until it got dark. Everybody ate food and drank some water. John's wound on his chest was getting more and more infected, Sophia's right leg, right forearm, and right side of the stomach that had gotten stabbed was still giving her pain. She couldn't wrap them up, she didn't have anything. The blood ran through her clothes. When Laura checked on her hand scabs formed where the blisters had once been, but where her skin had peeled, her skin turned black. It wasn't a dark blue, it was black. She touched the black area and pain shot through her arm. It was rough and what looked like scales started to form. The group didn't know what to do.

After the creature had finished eating, it was clear that it had gone to sleep. The creature made a thump noise and started to snore. Snore? Was it really snoring? The group climbed down from the tree and made way to the forest. They needed weapons, something to end this thing. They need help, that's what they needed. But now they were one person short and that's just something they couldn't afford.

They waited outside the cave and watched the creature sleep. They had decided that they should attack him before he woke up himself, they would then have the advantage and not the creature. The held onto their wooden sticks tightly. Just when they had started marching into the cave to attack a big sawarm of something appeared. It looked thick even in the dark night. The buzzing sound just kept getting louder and louder. They surrounded the group making it hard to see, they tried to run for cover into the cave, but they couldn't see. One of the things landed on Laura's head and started to suck her blood. "Ouch!" she yelled and swat at it. As Laura brought her hand up she saw a thick yellowish goo, it was the guts of the creature. There was so much guts that came from the creature that it had to be soemthing huge.

"What are these things!" Sophia yelled, but nobody answered, they were all swatting at these things. Finally the swarm of things had passed them, except for one. One had landed on John's pant leg. He noticed it quiclky and saw it as an overgrown mosquito. He sawt at it and yellow goo appeared on his hand. Sophia and John looked at each other and then at the creature. They started to hear heavy breathing and panting. They looked over their left shoulder and saw that Laura was having a hard time breathing.

"Laura?" Sophia asked. "What's wrong!"
"I-I c-c-can't BREATHE!" LAura screamed. Before John could get to Laura, she collapsed. She lay on the ground not breathing. John ran over to her body and perfromed CPR. Sophia ran over to Laura's body and rolled her eyelids back. Laura's eyes had rolled into the back of her head and her eyes had turned dull. After ten minutes of CPR, Laura's body turned a dull grey. John didn't give up, he continued on with the CPR. Sophia started crying over her lost friend, but before they could stop and give up on her , she answered.

"Guys." Sh moaned. But it wasn't something to get happy over. She had talked but blood started dripping out of her mouth and she started to tremble. "What's going on?" Puke poured out of her mouth as she coughed.

"Hhelp me." Laura cried as her world turned black.
