If dreams did come true
I would only want to dream of you
I would dream for you to stay
And make up for our terrible ways
But this dream isn't real
I need to find a happy place
This is all too surreal
But that only exists to see your glistening face.
Carlos Delgado read these words over and over in his head. He had written these precious words to fill the void in his heart, to write in his notebook he felt he had somebody to talk to, though he didn't have anybody. He would read these words everyday multiple times. He read them like a christian reads a bible. He read them like his life depended on it, he read those words like they were sacred, and to him they were. To read those words he felt like she would touch his life and protect him, to forgive him for making her angry, but no matter how many times he read those words, he still felt guilty for the murder of Mrs. Delgado.
It had been ten years since the murder of his wife, his children had moved on and all Carlos had left was his farm. Except for the company of the animals, Carlos was alone. He had many cows and sheep to care for, he took care of them religiously. He made sure they were in top shape and in the best health possible. He tended to the animals like it were Sofia or Omar.
Sofia was now twenty- five years old. She met a high ranking Lawyer and started to bond immedietly. They had met at law school and instantly made a bond. Tyler was a weathly man and he was top of his class. When Sofia and Tyler had gone out for a year they decided to get married. They got married and when they both graduated from school, they got accepted to work at the same law firm. Tyler had put in good word for his wife and of course nobody would turn down a weathy, smart and top class man. Sofia and Tyler had two children who they had named Carlos and Jose. Mr. Delgado had never attended their wedding or visited their grand children, he was always too depressed too leave his farm, plus his business would plummet to it's death. Besides those two reasons of not going, he didn't trust anynody to watch over his family-farm ever since the death of his wife.
Omar never got married, he never got children, he didn't even have time to date. He was always travelling around the world. He is twenty- seven and he has already been to Japan, Iraq and now Africa. A sickness had spread over Africa, he had been stationed in Africa for five months, this was the longest he had ever been stationed. He had promised himself that when he had turned thirty, he would take a break and find time for family. Omar was such a smart kid, and because he was so smart he had left home just a few months after his mothers death. He ahd graduated top class and become a well known doctor, and only at the age of twenty- seven ( almost twenty- eight!).
One night when the stars were shinning brightly, Mr. Delgado had gone out to check on his animals just before he was going to check into bed. All of the animals seemed to be alright. Mr. Delgado went inside and read his poem again and again. He could recite the thing by memory, but by reading the words it felt more sentimental. He had gotten ready for bed and prayed for a peaceful rest, after praying to his god, he prayed to his wife, asking her for forgiveness and love. He lay in bed quietly thinking about his wife just like every other day and night.
It had been three hours since mr. Delgado had gone to sleep. Everything was peaceful, the animals were sleeping, the crickets were chirping and there was a soft wind blowing amongst the farm yard. Suddenly a clattering sound woke Mr. Delgado up ( ever since mr.s Delgado's death, Mr. Delgado tained himself to wake when he heard even the slightest sound.) Mr. Delgado got out of bed and walked to the nearest window that overlooked his animals in the fields. Everything seemed alright. Then all of a sudden the sheep started bleeting and the cows started mooing. The animals had never made this much noise, but still mr. Delgado convinced himself that the animals were safe and sound. Then the animals started running in circles. Mr. Delgado decided to check on the animals. He took a flash light and a bat, he walked towards the field quietly and slowly. He got to the fence where the many cows and sheep gretted him, it was like they were asking him for helping, looking at him for assurance and protection. Mr. Delgado jumped over the fence looking for anything that might be scaring the animals. The animals were making sounds, like they were telling Mr. Delgado that something was wrong, like they were warning him.
But it was too late..
Mr. Delgado had pushed through the many animals and when he got into the center of the field he saw a monstrous creature destroying a sheeps body and slurping it dry. The sheep was dry to its bones, it was deflated almost like...like....like Natalie Gonzalez Delgado.
Mr. Delgado, in shock, dropped his flashlight and bat and ran the other direction. Wrong move. The creature caught the wuick movement of Mr. Delgado and ran after him. Mr. Delgado pushed through the animals and jumped of the fence. He had fallen once over the fence and had started running to the house, but the creature was too fast, it had caught up with him. The creature snagged Mr. Delgado away and after sucking him dry, the creature took him to where thy dead sheep lay. The creature attacked more cows and more sheep, doing the same thing, it stacked his victims into a pile. It was as if the creature was claiming territory. It was as if the creature was saying he was the boss, it was as if he was saying don't mess with me.
Except for the dead bodies laying in the middle of the field, the farm yard was empty. Silence had deceased, no more animal noises, not even the sounds of crickets. It was like when a living thing died, so did everything else.
