"So, before you go,
Was there something I could've said to make your heart beat better?"

Kai was unsure if he really wanted to tell Misaki about his curse, about everything. He didn't want her to hate him, or spite him. He just wanted her to love him for who he is.

"Five thousand years ago, Zenaku cursed me with Reverse. It was an ancient curse that the Demon King would give the people who would betray him. In other words, a punishment for disobeying your lord. The rule of the curse was, if the receiver shows resistance then they'd get the curse, but if they wholeheartedly accept the curse, they'd be given eternal power from the Demon King."

Misaki was silent. She wanted him to continue his story.

"I was on a mission at that time, to kill a young princess from a rural kingdom. I was still a faithful follower of my father. As I was about to kill her though, I just... I just couldn't. Her eyes were wide with wonder, and she was... smiling." Misaki noticed streams of tears falling out of Kai's eyes, and embraced her lover.

"Kai," She hushed. "You don't have to continue."

"N-No, you have to know." He stuttered as he started to quiver.

"I couldn't kill her, I let her live. That's when I realized that Zenaku was the true enemy. Because the reason why he wanted her dead, was because of her ability to kill the demon clan. She was the descendant of the Demon Clan, and at the same time, the Goddess Clan. This meant she had the power of light and dark, balance." Kai let out a deep sigh. Misaki continued to rub his chest.

" I even took her to the kingdom as a sign of my resistance. That's when he gave me Reverse, and I resisted it at first. That's when the darkness enveloped me. It forced me to a psychotic state. Because I resisted it, it... it forced me to kill the princess w-with my own bare hands." Kai choked up his words right after. Misaki had started tearing up just at the thought. She too has gone through a lot, but nothing like what he has gone through.

"And now, every time I-I sleep... I see her. Blossom. Aika." Misaki covered her mouth, trying to keep her breath in control. Kai has completely lost his composure. He broke down.

"Aika's human soul was converted to that of a demon's soon after I finished her off with a condition from Zenaku. That's how she was able to live for a few hundred more years. As long as I didn't betray the Demon Clan again, my little sister would still live. That's what turned me into the monster I am. The cold-hearted monster that even my brothers hate. The person Zenaku always wanted me to be: a monster."

"What happened to Aika? Why does she remain in a coma? How?" Misaki couldn't help but blabber out. She wanted to know what happened in order for her to know how to help.

That was when Kai looked at her in the eye with no emotion whatsoever.

"Do you love me?" He asked her with no emotion in his eyes or words. The goddess was scared for the first time, because the person she sees right now may not be the person she fell for.

"K-Kai... Of course! Of course, I love you!" Tears fell down her cheeks as she looked at him with pleading eyes. The moonlight shuns on them, as the air only grew colder and colder as time continued.

"I signed a contract with the Oracle Clan and Goddess Clan to kill your parents in exchange for Aika's soul to move on, whether demon or not." Misaki froze. Her parents, the happiest people she knew, killed by her lover?

"W-What?"

"They tricked me into thinking that they'd help as long as I did the dirty work. That's when I was punished by the curse once more, and she fell into a coma... I'm so sorry." Kai looked at her in the eye, with sincerity and guilt. All she could do was stare at him and try to process the information. She didn't know what emotion to feel.

Should she be mad that her own clan forced someone already so broken to kill people in order to achieve what they want or should she be mad because Kai was the one who made her life a living hell?

"Misaki, I... You don't have to-"

"Kai," She looked at him in the eyes with a painful smile on her face. "I'm sorry, but you have to give me some time."

With that said, she stood from the bed she sat and walked to the balcony. Her backside looked divine as she walked to the railings and took a deep breath. In a few moments, wings came out of her back. She revealed her true form to Kai, the Goddess of Balance, Misaki.

Misaki turned back to Kai, who was still at awe at the beautiful sight in front of him.

"I love you, but I have to go."

And just like that, the love of his life left him in despair.

Kai sat alone in the bed, smiling painfully as tears fell from his eyes. His heart was broken.

"She ended up hating me."

Guess who's back...

YES! I'm back!

After realizing the potential my old stories have, 8th-year highschooler Marie realized that she needed to continue the product of her 12-year-old imagination. I'm not promising consistent updates, but because of the coronavirus and the multiple suspensions here in our country over the prevention of spread, I'm back. Though as soon as school comes back, it's exam day (yipee T-T). But seriously though, COVID19 is not a joke. I hate how people joke about it, thinking that it's a topic to make fun of. It's not. Millions of people are out there suffering from the virus, whether directly or indirectly. Thousands have died because of it.

So as a safety reminder, always be hygienic and wash your hands guys! Stay safe!
