12) The Blade of Marmora

"The base is in range," Coran informed us.

"Take us in slowly," Shiro said.

"That might prove the tiniest bit of a challenge"

In front of us was some sort of giant blue star between two black holes. It was a pretty sight, the blue swirling between the two dark holes, but there was also the science aspect as to how in the heck did they manage that.

"Is that a black hole?" Hunk asked.

"No, no, no, no, no. It's two black holes-"

"And a giant blue star," I said, cutting Coran off. He glared at me and I smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, I just got excited"

"That's not better," Hunk said.

"No kidding. Just inside a black hole the temperature is one million of a degree above absolute zero. But, just outside of that, it's hundreds of millions of degrees Celsius," Pidge explained.

"Okay, it's like when you try to nuke a frozen burrito in the microwave, and it comes out all scorching hot on the outside, but it's still frozen in the middle, right?"

"Now I'm hungry for lunch!" Lance exclaimed.

"Guys, quiet! Coran, where's the base located?" Keith asked, standing up from his seat. He seemed really serious about this.

"In between those three deadly celestial objects," Coran told him.

"The perfect defensive position," Pidge said.

"Or the perfect trap," Allura said.

"Yeah, I'm with Allura. Maybe we shouldn't, like, go in there at all?" Hunk asked.

"What are you talking about? We have to go in!" Keith yelled. "This is the whole reason we came out here! There is no other option!"

"Okay. Jeez. Calm down," Lance said to Keith.

"There are other options, but they'll all probably lead to us getting captured by the Galra," I mentioned. "So, this blue star between the black holes are actually our best option"

Everyone went silent, but then a computerized voice spoke from the screen. "Identify yourself"

"Open a hailing frequency, Coran," Coran did and Shiro continued. "We are the Paladins of Voltron, sent here by Ulaz"

There was a pause, then it spoke again. "Two May enter. Come unarmed"

"I wonder how they managed to get this set up so perfectly," I whispered to Pidge. "Don't you think this is awesome?"

Pidge opened her mouth to talk but the computer spoke again. "She will come as well"

"Hmm?" I hummed, not understanding.

"Who?" Shiro asked.

"Aris Kremer"

My eyes widened and everyone looked at me. I was in shock, that it knew my name and wanted me to join the two going in.

"How does it know your name?" Lance asked.

"Maybe it's because of who my mom was. She was pretty famous, she travelled, and she mentioned these people"

"But you were also kidnapped by them," Allura said to me then looked at Shiro. "Why would they insist we come unarmed? And specifically ask for Aris? Shiro, this doesn't feel right"

"We've come too far to turn back now," Shiro told her.

"They just sent us a route to the base, but we'll have to move quickly. Because of the solar flares it's only open for another varga. Then, it will be closed for two quintants," Coran said.
