27.5) The Road Home

"Team, we're going to make a quick stop. Everyone follow me," Keith said.

We landed at the station, all of us, minus Romelle, Shiro and Coran, going in. Allura and I pried open the doors.

"It doesn't look like anyone's been here for years," Keith said.

Pidge went to a computer. "The system won't boot. Looks like the backup power has been out for a while"

"If the Blade of Marmora abandoned this place, that means something really bad must have happened," Hunk said.

"That's impossible. This base was still fully operational during my last check in with the Blades," Krolia said.

Something hit the base, shaking the ground we stood on. Keith put a hand on my arm when I nearly fell over.

"Enemy ship! Incoming!" Coran yelled.

"Everyone, back to the Lions," Keith ordered.

Back in the Lions - I ended up in the red one with Mum - we hurried away from the station, trying to see what we were dealing with.

"It looks like a small fleet. Mostly Galra fighters," Keith said.

"That's good. We should be able to take them out pretty easily," Lance said.

"Yeah, but remember, we're not flying at full power," Pidge said.

"Pidge is right. Everyone stay sharp," Keith said.

"We also don't know what did that damage to the Blade base. It could've happened recently, or whoever did it could still be around," I added.

"Keep an eye out. Where there are fighters there's usually a cruiser nearby," Lance said.

Mum and I both held on to whatever we could to keep ourselves from being thrown around the ship as we were attacked.

"Guys, they've got me. I can't move," Hunk said.

"Hang on, Hunk. I'm gonna get you out of there," Keith told him.

"We're getting our quiznacks handed to us. We need to do something," Lance said. "We need to form Voltron"

"Okay. Everyone, in formation"

"It's not working"

"Hold!"

"The lions can't take much more of this," Allura said.

"Abort!"

"What the heck just happened?" Lance asked.

"The Lions still don't have enough power to form Voltron, even if they did it probably wouldn't have held long enough to fight off these ships," Mum said.

"So now what?" Hunk asked.

"We run," Keith said.

The Lions all started to hit invisible objects, Coran told us that they were xanthorium crystals that have been cloaked.

"I've never see the Galra use weapons like this before," Hunk said.

"And they're not using standard Galra battle formations," Allura pointed out.

"It must not be someone from Zarkon's forces then," I said. "Maybe one of Lotor's generals"

"How are we gonna get away?" Hunk asked.

"They're trying to trap us by chasing us through this tunnel of crystals," Keith said.

"He's right. Look, there are more crystals up ahead," Pidge said.
