"Many years ago we started fighting back. It started with Voltron, with Allura and Coran and the Paladins, and then it grew. The Coalition gained forces to fight against Zarkon, and we won that battle as well as all the other battles that were to follow"
I paused, noticing a familiar white haired man standing next to another human man and another familiar man beside them that wore his blue jacket. Shiro, his husband, and Lance.
"Now, what people decades ago could've only dreamed of, we live in peace. We've achieved what many thought was impossible. We work together, and we must continue working together, to keep our future free"
The crowd cheered and started to disperse after my speech. I went back inside, going to look for Pidge. She was most likely holed up in the lab.
"Are you done with your speech?" She asked when I walked in.
"Yeah. With all these speeches I'm doing I'm starting to feel like I've taken over for Allura, although I'm not the leader, they still listen to everything I have to say"
"You've got a lot of good ideas, why wouldn't they listen? Let's go"
We went outside, going for a little walk before we laid on the ground in the green fields. Pidge had come to Altea to visit me and we were just relaxing, catching up.
"Describe home," she suddenly said.
"It's been a while since I've had a proper home. But home makes me think of him. His long black hair, the familiar voice that's gotten me through so much, the way his skin feels, the softness of his lips..."
"You really do love him"
"I do"
"You know, Home isn't always a place. It can be a person. He must be your home. I sort of always expected it, though, everyone did. We were all in the background watching you two grow closer, and the looks filled with love you'd direct to one another," she sat up, looking down at her phone, then she got up. "I need to get back to the lab to help the Altean scientists. We'll talk more later"
"See you"
After she left I took a deep breath, looking up at the bright blue sky, the clouds passing by, with a smile. My eyes drifted to the side when I saw someone walking towards me. Keith, with his long hair in a ponytail blowing behind him, was walking up to me. I quickly got up and ran over to him, jumping into his arms.
"You're back! How was the trip?"
"I missed you," he whispered in my ear.
He put the flower he was holding behind my ear, tucking my hair away from my face as well. We then sat back down, him with his arm around me, holding my body close to his.
"How's it going?" I asked.
"We're making a lot of progress, but there's still more to do so I can't stay long"
"Why don't you just let someone else take over? Or lead them from here?"
He chuckled. "I need to be there. But, soon, hopefully, I won't have to travel so much anymore. Then maybe we could..."
"What?"
"Start a family?"
I lifted my head from his shoulder, smiling. "I can't wait"
We went inside when it got dark, going to Keith's room since mine was being renovated. Keith took off his shirt and pants while I changed into my pyjamas. Then we got in bed.
I laid my head on his chest, hugging his waist. I fell asleep listening to his even and calm breaths, but I was awoken to the sound of someone barging into the room.
"Keith, we need you to-!"
Hunk stopped talking when he walked into the room and I sat up. I probably looked really confused, I wasn't expecting to see him on Altea.
"Hunk? What are you doing on Altea?"
"Never mind!" He said, looking anywhere but us. "I didn't mean to interrupt... I'll leave now!"
He rushed out the door, shutting it quickly behind him. I looked down at Keith, raising one of my eyebrows.
"Do you know what that was about?"
"He wanted me to taste test a new recipe"
"Really? But-"
"Don't over think it. Go back to sleep"
I did go back to sleep. When I woke up Keith wasn't there anymore, but there was a trail of petals of a flower that was found only on Altea. I followed them to the dining room, finding the lighting dimmed slightly, decorations up everywhere, and all my friends and family standing around a table.
"Happy Birthday!!" They all cheered.
"Wow, so this is why all of my friends randomly showed up on Altea on the same day?" I asked with a chuckle. "Thanks, guys"
I went over to the table, everyone else sitting down, but Keith pulled out my chair for me. We ate, talked, laughed, some of them even danced when music came on. I remained sitting, Keith still in the seat beside me.
"Today has been great," I said.
He put a hand over mine. "It isn't over yet"
While everyone else was still inside, partying, Keith led me outside, away from the Castle. We sat down on the grass and a fireworks show started. I laid my head on his shoulder as I watched.
"I love you," he whispered, kissing my head.
"I love you too," I said, keeping my attention on the fireworks.
They paused for a second, I thought the display was over, but then one more firework went off. It spelt out the words, 'will you marry me, Aris?'
I lifted my head and looked at Keith in shock as he pulled out a ring box, showing me the ring inside. "Will you marry me?"
"Yes"
