26) Defender of All Universes

"Aris, you need to get back to the Castle, it's going to be dangerous"

"You guys need the heart of Voltron. I'll make you stronger"

He shook his head, standing up out of his seat, letting the Lion take control for a second. "It's too dangerous"

He leaned forward, pressing his lips against mine. I left my eyes wide open, not moving until he moved away. As soon as his lips left mine I slapped him.

"You can't be serious! Keith, I'm staying with you"

He picked me up, putting a struggling me in the pod and locked me inside with Shiro and sent us back to the Castle.

I wandered around the Castle, trying to keep my mind off the fight, and hurried to the bridge when Coran called for me. I watched Voltron fly out of a rift, tons of other rifts open all around.

"Oh, you're back!" Coran said happily.

"Lotor is no longer a threat," Keith said.

"Right. I'm afraid we face a bigger threat now. All of Lotor's jumping in and out of the quintessence field has created multiple growing rifts in the fabric of time and space"

"What does that mean?" Lance asked.

"It means that unless we do something fast, those tears will continue to expand until all of existence as we know it has been destroyed," Pidge explained.

"There has to be something we can do," Keith said.

"Scanning the rift for any strange refabrication possibilities," Pidge said.

"I'm running a few different models now to see if there's any chance it can close on its own," Hunk said.

"From what I'm seeing here, that isn't going to happen, it won't just close on its own and it can't be refabricated," I said, typing rapidly. "There's no way they'd stabilize on their own before destroying the entire universe"

"How long do we have?" Keith asked.

"Based on the way those rifts are expanding, about 15 doboshes," Coran answered.

"Allura, you have to have a way to close it," Lance said. "Voltron opened it up, maybe we can... I don't know! There's gotta be a way!"

"I'm sorry but I just don't posses that level of Altean knowledge," Allura said.

"The only thing that could possibly pull that rift closed would be a source of gravity more powerful than a supermassive black hole," Pidge said.

"Any chance we can find one and tow it over here in 15 doboshes?" Lance asked.

"We're in luck. There's the teludav," I said unsurely.

"That's it!" Coran said. "To make wormhole jumps, the teludav creates a brief flash of infinite mass. There might be a way I can overload the teludav reactor and seal the rift. If one of the flashes went off in the rift, it could do the job"

"But that would mean sacrificing the Castle of Lions," Hunk said.

"What choice do we have?" Pidge asked. "The castle will be wiped out with the rest of us"

"But still... it's been our home"

"Oh, I hate to say goodbye to my grandfathers creation," Coran sighs. "The last piece of the real Altea"
