A Night Child: created as a gift from the Sun to the moon, created out of love, but even if they are fast, strong, have amazing hearing and sight, and can do a certain kind of magick, they have something that makes all of that a blessing to them. They can't go in the sun and they have an uncontrollable lust for blood.
A witch is natural but can be changed. A Night Child cannot. They are all natural even if they believe they are not. A witch is no better than a Night Child in any moral way. So, Tyson thought, why was it such a big deal to be one of them?
The car the Tyson was sitting in was cold. The air whipping in through the window and bit at his face but he didn't turn away, even though it was making it hard to breath.
Ava sat beside him, Kai and Zachariah in the front. It was the same car they had taken, the black Sedan with blacked out windows. Ava stared out the window, he face pressed against it, looking broken. Tyson hated how Ava felt like it was her fault. It wasn't. Obviously not. There had been a breach in the dungeons and she got hurt. Ava couldn't have stopped it from happening. It would have happened if she was there or not.
Tyson sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. Tomorrow was Ava's birthday. She'd be seventeen years old but she wouldn't have a party or anything. She can't be around her mom and she was corrupted so they had to figure out that. But, he just wished they could have one day. One day away from all the problems. One day where they could just be happy.
That was the promise he made to himself right then. Ava would have a party. They would have one day away from everything. No matter what. She needed a break, Tyson knew that, they all needed a break.
The car slowed to a stop in front of the skyscraper. As soon as Zachariah put it in park, Ava jumped out, slamming the door behind her. Tyson opened the door and went to follow her.
"Wait," Kai said from inside. Tyson stopped and turned around. "Take care of her. I have to go back to the tunnels, Seth won't let strangers inside," he drew a piece of paper out of the inside pocket of his leather jacket, handing it to Tyson.
Tyson unfolded it and looked at the dark, elegant handwriting. A phone number. Tyson looked up at Kai and he nodded.
"Call whenever you need help, you or Ava," Kai confirmed, rolled up the window and drove off. Once the car faded into the distance, Tyson turned around and ran inside.
The vampires in the lounge watched Tyson as he ran by and into the elevator. Ava was probably all ready up there and either waiting for him or wondering why he wasn't there yet. Tyson sighed and swayed impatiently. It seemed like the ride was a lot longer than the last time he had been in here.
The door slowly slid open and as soon as it was big enough for Tyson get through he ran out, almost knocking into a Night Child standing outside a door hanging a little bit open, voices drifting out of it.
"They're inside if you are looking for them," the boy said, jerking his thumb towards the door. Tyson nodded and then quietly pushed the door open and walked inside. The room was like him and Ava's room but a lot bigger, plus a couch. There was a big open doorway that led into a small hospital-like bedroom. On one of the cots sat Emma being held by Seth. She was crying into his chest and Tyson instantly felt like he was intruding on a private moment. But then he saw Ava, standing at the end of the cot, talking to Veronica.
"Is there any way to stop the transformation? Any way at all?" Ava demanded as Tyson entered the room, moving to stand beside Ava.
"No. Not unless you feel like killing her?" Veronica said, glancing at Seth.
"No," Seth said, meeting Veronica's gaze, "How could you even suggest that? It's your fault she is in this situation." Veronica glared at him.
"It's your fault that she was in the damn dungeon in the first place. I saved her life, since you failed to do it!" Veronica yelled at him and then stomped out of the room, the door slamming shut behind her.
