The sound of Emma's breathing was still comforting but, her heart was what always seemed to suffice him better than her breath. But, that would do. His arm wrapped around her bare shoulders, the covers pulled up to her chin.
They were both awake but, they also both just thought that bathing in the darkness and silence together was better than explaining why anything they just did even happened. Seth didn't understand it and he doubted Emma did either.
He thought what he had done was unforgivable, even if he didn't intend for it to happen. He should have left it alone but he didn't want to ruin the moment. But he had to.
"I have to go," Seth said, brushing her long hair out of her face, exposing her beautiful eyes. Emma groaned and leaned back to look up at him.
"Why?" she said, narrowing her eyes at him as if she thought he was lying. He wasn't.
"I have a meeting with Darrel," he said, looking up at the clock, "That started forty five minutes ago." Emma followed his gaze to the clock.
"Fine," she said, sitting up, and pulling the sheet with her, "but you have to promise to come back. I've missed you." Seth sat up, feeling her cool breath on his skin.
"I might not be back until later," he said, "It depends on what Darrel has to discuss." He ran the back of his hand along her cheek. Right now, if she were still a witch, her cheeks would be flushed and her eyes tired, but now, she looked more awake than he had ever seen her. She may have technically been dead but she seemed more alive than she ever was when she was a witch.
Emma glared at him and shook her head, saying, "You seriously can't put off what Darrel has to discuss?"
He sighed, thinking of how he acted when he insisted on it. Worried, stressed, confused. "I'm afraid not, Emma," he said, starting to get off the bed.
Her hand wrapped around his wrest, holding him there. He didn't dare pull back, he knew how strong she was, especially since she was a Night Child now. Her grip was vice-like.
"Then promise me something else," she said, sighing, "I know you know something but you won't tell me," Seth tensed at her words. Yes, he knew something that he wouldn't tell her. But that was just it, he didn't want to tell her. "I want to know that. No more secrets if we are going to try this. I can't stand when you lie to me or keep things from me." Her expression looked hurt.
Seth didn't want to tell her but he knew she would hear it from somewhere and he wanted it to be from him. If someone told her about his intentions, she might tell Ava. If he told her first, she'd believe whatever he'd say. It was simply brilliant.
"I promise," he sighed, "But I'll be back before noon tomorrow." he said, standing up and slipping on his jeans. Emma smiled.
"We're turning over a new leaf," she said, leaning back on the bed and looking up at the ceiling, "Starting over. This is a new beginning for us Seth Hayes." Seth smiled and pulled his shirt over his head, moving on to his shoes.
"Yes, it is Emma Livingston," he answered, standing up and opening the door, grabbing his jacket on the way out. "To a new beginning." he called back.
"A new beginning," Emma's answering call. He smiled and walked into the hallway.
The meeting room was on the fourteenth floor and was basically like a stereotypical meeting room. There was a huge long table with chairs bordering it. Usually every chair was filled during real meetings but tonight, only the most trusted were here. And that was very few.
There was a table with a coffee machine on it that nobody used. It was stocked daily but still nobody ever needed coffee. Vampires can sleep and like to from time to time but it takes a lot to actually get them tired. Like draining their magick, which is why they rarely used them. One wall, the one facing the city, was a big window. Nobody ever comes in this room unless its in the night so they didn't have the dark drapes to cover the sunlight.
