The Proposition plays their heart out and every show, tonight's show is no exception and it's felt through the air. Everyone feels it, even the ones who were dragged along because their significant other, friend, sibling or their child needed someone to go with. There was a song for at least everyone.
When the set was over everyone cheers and I try to cheer the loudest. I staid away from the stage just to give everyone else the chance to get close. I was close to them all the time, I didn't have to be close at concerts.
As Taylor moves from behind his drumkit to take a bow I can see his eyes scanning the room. The smile never leaves his face as his glistening blue orbs flicker from face to face, but it does widen when they finally land on me. I smile at him and hold ip two thumbs. Without thinking he grabs the microphone from the stand Jas had been using and motions for everyone to quiet down. It takes only seconds before the room falls into a still silence. It prickles goosebumps up my arm.
Taylor wraps both his hands around the stem of the microphone as he brings it too his mouth. Air rushes through the speakers as he breathes out. A gentle smile touches his lips and he looks down at his feet.
"I just want to start off by saying," he flicks his eyes up and looks out into the crowd, "you guys are fucking amazing. I mean it. It warms my heart watching you all from behind my kit and it just— man," he breathes out again. Letting go of the mic with one hand he reaches up and swipes the sweat off his forehead with his arm. "Somethings happened tonight, some news. Big news in fact."
I shift stiff on my feet, arms crossed under my chest. His eyes flicker to me and I find myself giving him a nod of confirmation.
"If you haven't heard, I'm getting married." Soft gasps float through the air. I take in a deep breath. "Those rumors are true. But know that my commitment to this band isn't any less than what it was before. I'm in it a thousand percent, but I also can't put my life on hold. Y'know?" He waits a beat. "The only thing I ask of you guys, and everyone really, is to respect me and my fiancée. Char and I are going through some personal things right now. Things that doesn't need the added pressure of judgment. Can you guys do that for me?"
The crowd breaks into a chorus of yes'. A bright smile touches his lips.
"Can you do my one more favor?" He holds up his finger, wingeing just a little bit. "Tomorrow we're going to be celebrating the love my life's nineteenth birthday, she's here tonight, and I was wondering if you guys would join me in singing happy birthday to her?" He bites down on his lip, holding the microphone in both his hands.
I shake my head as his eyes meet mine but it only glistens more.
"On the count of three alright? One . . Two . . Three— haaappy birthday to you," his eyes never leave mine and I wince as a light shines in my face.
"Happy birthday to you," the room starts to sing and I feel my breath hitch in my throat. The light moves away from my face. "Happy birthday dear—"
"Charlotte,"
"Happy birthday to you!" The lights back on my face and I wince again.
With his eyes deadlock on me, Taylor speaks. "Happy late birthday, baby." Pressing his hand against his mouth his gives them a little smooch before tossing it over to me. I don't miss the way heads turn in my direction and I feel my face heat up.
I look over at Brooke and she was typing away on her phone screen, a bright smile on her face. I felt a bit unsteady and I needed some fresh air. Without saying a word, I give her shoulder a slight squeeze to signify my departure and head for the door. As I'm leaving I can just make out Oliver complaining about how it was his birthday celebration too so they gladly start singing happy birthday again, this time without being asked.
