Jace made his way down the stairs, yawning as he rubbed his eyes tiredly. He hadn't gotten the best sleep, he'd admit. Aline had hogged the blanket all to herself, as she usually did- but the recent silence between them meant that he couldn't ask for it back.
Therefore he was left shivering all night, tossing and turning in the light pyjamas he had packed.
It seemed none of the warm summer air had bothered stopping by their room, but now, as Jace trudged into the dining room- he could definitely feel the heat.
(A/N: Sorry for the watermark)
Sunlight streamed through the windows, sending it's warm rays into the room.
The natural light lit up the room in a way which made Jace squint his eyes a bit upon walking into it.He awkwardly stood one step in the door, staring at the sight of Isabelle and that girl -Clary- talking animatedly at the table, joined by the waiter from last night- Simon.
You could tell he was trying his best to remember the countless of names.
He scanned the table, thankfully spotting Alec towards the end of it. Jace raised his eyebrows at him, only to see Alec already staring at him, giving him the same expression.
On the other side of the table, sat that kind woman he had met yesterday after dinner-Tessa-who was chatting away to her husband...
God, what was his name again? Bill? ... Gill? ...Dilly?-
"Jace!! Good morning!" Aline said, promptly snapping him out of his thoughts.
She emerged out of the kitchen, this time not being flanked by Helen which Jace was thankful for.
He was surprised she was talking this animatedly towards him due to her recent behaviour but smiled nonetheless.
"Morning." He said groggily, continuing to give her a sleepy smile.
She had already gotten dressed, wearing a stylish white polka dot, red sundress.
It dipped low, giving Jace a clear view of the small cleavage she had.She beamed at him, resting her hand gently against his abs as she lifted herself to her tiptoes to kiss his cheek.
He wrapped his arms loosely around her waist, leaning in close to her ear before whispering, "Someone's in a good mood."
She grinned and nodded, faking a shocked look before whispering back, "Aren't I always?"
Jace wanted to bluntly reply, 'No.' but refrained, his shoulders shaking with his silent laughter.
Aline rolled her eyes, sensing his obvious answer before grabbing his hand and leading him over to the table.
"Morning Jace- Nice of you to finally join us." Isabelle greeted, sending him a cheeky smile.
Izzy was thankfully also in her pyjamas- as was Alec, leaving him feeling not so awkward as he first did walking into the room.
He sat down next to Aline, opposite of Isabelle and Clary.
He ran a hand through his hair, throwing Isabelle a smirk as he said, "I need my beauty sleep, good looks like these don't come easily. Though I suppose you wouldn't be familiar with that."
He winked as she scowled at him, chuckling a bit when she looked at Alec for support but he just stared at her, expressionless.
"Coward." She muttered, sending Jace one final glare before resuming her conversation with Clary.
Jace glanced at the girl, watching her eyes twinkle as she laughed at whatever Izzy had said.
Her fiery hair tumbled down her back, apparently having a life of its own as the curls bounced this way and that.
Her pouty pink lips were stretched into a pleasant smile, which Jace found endearing. It seemed as though there was a slight tug towards her in his mind, that constantly nagged at him even when he had stopped staring at her.
He shook his head- once again trying to clear his mind from his strange thoughts.
He draped an arm around Aline's shoulders, kissing her hair quickly.
"So Jace," Isabelle began, turning to face him again, "Clary was talking about giving us a tour around the whole village! And the beach!! Want to come?" She wiggled her brows suggestively, simultaneously giving him her famous 'puppy dog' eyes.
Jace grinned, nodding instantly. He turned to Aline, "You coming?" He asked, squeezing her close to him jokingly.
Aline shook her head, giving him an apologetic look, causing Jace's smile to drop a bit.
"What? Why not?" He asked, furrowing his brows, confused.
"I... don't feel the best." She explained, giving him a strained smile.
Jace mentally facepalmed, instantly remembering her dash to the bathroom yesterday thanks to her... 'Shark week' as she put it.
He winced, mouthing a quick 'sorry' to her discreetly.
She frowned at him, confused for a second before realisation dawned on her, causing her to wave him off.
'It's okay.' She mouthed back, smiling softly as she rubbed his back.
"Yeah... I'll go anyways." Jace concluded, raising his head to see most of the table looking at him expectantly.
(Excluding Simon, -who was too busy ogling at Isabelle-,Tessa and... yeah- him, who were chatting quietly, heads bent together as... he felt Tessa's heavily pregnant belly)"That settles it then! I'll go get ready, Clary- want to come?" Isabelle asked, rising from the table.
"What about breakfast?!" She protested, but Isabelle was already dragging her to her feet.
Jace chuckled, feeling sorry for the girl.
Isabelle was probably going to turn her into her own doll, dressing her up for hours on end.
Literal hours.
