Jace squinted as the sun bared down on them, lighting up the path to the beach as they walked. As they neared, he could smell the scent of the ocean- the salty breeze causing his eyes to tear up slightly.
Clary inhaled deeply, a subconscious smile blooming on her face.
She looked... content. That's what Jace would describe her as, at the moment. Content.
"I take it you like the beach?" He asked, starting up their conversation again.
They'd been chatting nonstop the length of their journey, only taking short breaks like they just took to enjoy the scenery.
Clary nodded instantly, chuckling a bit. "Is it that obvious?" She joked, smiling up at him.
Jace laughed a bit, dipping his head as he shrugged. He lifted his head back up, squinting down at her as if he was analysing her.
"Hmm... I would've guessed you'd like something more creative. Maybe music, reading... carving wood? I'd say you'd be good at that." He said, thinking back to the intricate designs on her door.
Clary snorted, shaking her head a bit. "Carving wood? Do I look like the kind of person that would be able to be around heavy tools to carve wood? I don't think so. Too dangerous. For everybody. How reckless of you, Jace."
She tutted, pretending she was scolding him as she waved a finger. He laughed, grabbing her finger to still her action of 'scolding him'.
He rolled his eyes at her expectant look, pursing his lips to keep him from laughing when she tried to lift a single, copper brow. And failed.
"I saw the designs on your door, Clary. I didn't just say that to be... stupendous." He chuckled before waving the hand that held her finger in for emphasis.
"They're really good. I mean, really good. My bets are, you're either a carpenter- or an artist. No in between." He stated confidently, watching her expression.
She had blushed slightly at the praise he gave her, it was still evident from the rosey colour in her cheeks, but it was slowly fading away.
She watched him with amused eyes, cocking her head slightly at him.
"You were staring at my door?" She said bluntly.
Jace spluttered a bit, releasing her finger in shock. "What? No- I mean, yes, but- you see-"
Clary cut him off by laughing loudly, clapping her hands together with glee.
"You should've seen your face!!" She cried, before laughing again.
Jace held a blank expression before he finally caught up to what had happened. He narrowed his eyes at her, smirking before he pushed her.
Straight. Into. A. Hedge.
Clary let out a small shriek as she was sent toppling into the small daisies and twigs, falling to the ground with a slight thump.
She could hear the surprised noise come from the back of Jace's throat as he rushed over, grabbing her forearms to haul her out.
He braced his hands on her back as hers rested on his upper biceps.
"You pushed me!" Clary cried, feigning a look of hurt. "Okay so, I pull a small little trick on you, and you push me into the hedge! I could've been killed. There- I said it. You tried to murder me. I wouldn't have been able to call for help, as administrated right there. Perfect plan, Jace. I would've been impressed if I wasn't your victim." She pretended to scowl, narrowing her eyes at him.
