"I just don't know how your mother could have known about the necklace." Jace contemplated, casting Clary a bewildered look."I mean, I had only bought it that morning. There was no possible way she could have seen it, unless she was digging through my pockets while I was passed out." He continued, raising his eyebrows at the possibility.
Clary huffed out a laugh. "Trust me, the last thing my mother could have been doing would be rifling through your pockets, Jace. She only arrived at the hospital like 30 minutes ago, how could she have slipped in here while I was already on my way to you?"
Jace shrugged. "You'd be surprised by the amount of women that would be more than happy to get their hands on a pair of my pants, Clary." He winked and she shook her head at him.
"I hope none of these women have the same chain around their necks as I do." She retorted, toying with the golden heart between her fingers. The emerald gem glinted in the light, causing him to squint a bit.
"Jeez, careful with that green laser of yours, almost blinded me, Fray." He grinned. Clary rolled her eyes, smiling nonetheless.
"I'm really glad that you're okay, Jace." She murmured. He squeezed her hand lightly, scooting over before motioning for Clary to sit beside him. She gingerly climbed onto his hospital bed, leaning into Jace's side.
She breathed in his scent, the action physically calming her tense shoulders.
"You have no idea how happy I am to be awake and sitting beside you right now, Clary." Jace whispered, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
She gazed up at him, her heart swelling inside of her chest at his words. He tucked a loose curl behind her ear, leaning in as he did so. Ever so lightly their lips touched, but it still was enough to send electric sparks soaring throughout Clary's body.
It was a sweet kiss, and Clary found herself leaning into it instantly, cupping Jace's hand in her own as she did so. He deepened the kiss with skilful ease, grasping the back of her neck lightly with his free hand.
It was as if every emotion that had remained a secret for years was now being shared in this kiss, as if their soul's were being finally connected after so long of being apart. Clary could practically feel a piece inside of her click right into place, and she let herself melt under Jace's touch.
Their foreheads remained touching as they parted for air, staring deeply into each other's eyes.
"Well, that sure as hell doesn't look like a coma to me." A familiar voice drawled sarcastically.
Clary and Jace jumped apart from each other, whirling around to see Will slumped up against the door frame, arms crossed over his chest.
"Was this supposed to be some kind of sick joke, Jocelyn?" He continued, watching Clary's exasperated mother enter the room with steely eyes. "You do realise that my wife just gave birth merely a few hours ago and I'm here entertaining their little Romeo and Juliet reenactment scene, right?"
Jocelyn didn't seem to be listening to Will's rant however as her gaze was suddenly trained on Jace- a healthy, wide awake, albeit a little flushed from what he was just doing with her daughter, Jace.
"Jace." She breathed, hurrying over to his side. Her usual tight, low bun had fallen loose, stray hairs framing her face yet she didn't seem to notice, or even care for that matter. Her face had a red tint to it, and it was with a slight shock that Clary realised Jocelyn had hurried all the way to Jace's room.
"Oh my God, are you alright? How do you feel? Nothings aching is it? Don't ever scare me again like that, do you hear me? You almost put me on one of these with the fright." She ranted, patting the hospital bed with a shaking hand.
